In the Middle Ages, knights served noble nobles and the king himself. During wars, they had to fight courageously and defend the borders of their kingdom with honor. Each knight tried to earn honorable fame and fame by brave deeds. Because they were loved, they are still admired by contemporaries.
Artists of all times and peoples painted portraits of heroes in armor, do you want to try it too? Based on the illustrated instructions, you will not only learn how to draw a knight, but in a matter of minutes you will proudly demonstrate your own work.
Before you start
Take a sheet of good thick paper (for example, whatman paper or for drawings). Prepare a hard-soft graphite pencil, or even better - a charcoal one (sold in specialized stores), a quality eraser, a ruler and a template (optional).
Carefully consider the sample. This is roughly what you should get:
Step 1
How to draw a knight? Any drawing must begin with a sketch. That is what needs to be done now.
Sketch is a sketch of simple lines known to every child: ovals and segments.
This may seem like the easiest step of the lesson "How to draw a knight with a pencil." But be careful, the fate of the final result depends on how you execute this simple drawing. It is in it that the success of the drawing lies - that's the secret! The main thing is to keep the proportions, not the straightness of the lines.
With light movements of the hand, outline the ellipses as shown in the figure, and draw a few thin lines from them:
Step 2
Add just a few smooth curved strokes rounding sharp corners, and … oh, miracle! The rider is already clearly visible on the sheet:
Let you not be confused by the still childish sketchiness of the image. The main thing is to know why it is done and how. It turns out to be very easy to draw a knight on a horse! The most common ovals drawn in place of the limbs will later help to give the outlines of the arms and legs muscular volume.
Step 3
The time has come for the most pleasant, but painstaking work - drawing small details.
You already guessed what to do next, how to draw a knight. It's good if the views are the same as the lesson.
Erase all now useless auxiliary lines, especially straight ones. Work through each element. This is best done with a finely sharpened pencil. Draw the details of the brush and sharp sword, "insert"shield in the other hand of a valiant warrior. Infuse the gaze of his trusty steed with a display of tail.
Highlight the helmet, chest armor, tunic and leg. Add details to the horse's "outfit": draw a bridle, a saddle and a blanket. Draw a checkered pattern on the bedspread, shade the horse's legs and hooves.
Tip
Before proceeding to the final step of the lesson "How to draw a knight", imagine that the sun is shining brightly. With this in mind, consider the location of the most illuminated areas that should remain unpainted. The presence of shadows and white spots will give the image an amazing volume.
Step 4
The magical phase of the play of shadows and light! To give volume and texture to the image, you need to correctly apply shadows along the edges of the contours, using different directions and pressure on the pencil.
Leave a "space" around the sword as shown in the reference to highlight the foreground. Do not forget about lighting, imagine where you think the sun's rays fall. The most prominent parts should remain unshaded, while the most "recessed", on the contrary, need to be shaded the most.
Don't forget about the ground: under the hooves of a mighty horse there must be a shadow, otherwise the characters of the plot will simply hang in space.
For completeness sketch the castle in the background.
The long-awaited image of a medieval warrior is in front of you!
