In 1974 Vishnevskaya Galina Pavlovna turned to Brezhnev with a letter. In it, she wrote that after repeated requests for help and the shameful restriction of acting, she sees no other way out than to go abroad with her husband and children for 2 years.
After the family leaves, the newspapers brand them "ideological degenerates". They wrote that they defame the Soviet system. They were even deprived of citizenship, but 4 other countries immediately offered it to them.
Outraged musicians wrote to Brezhnev that they, having devoted half a century to art, were deprived of the right to die in their homeland. In the appeal, in a rather harsh form, they wrote that they had never been involved in politics and did not recognize all the accusations. They also demanded an open trial of them in the USSR.
Galina Vishnevskaya: biography after the 90s
In 1990, Mikhail Gorbachev returned citizenship to the spouses, but they refused to accept it. Galina and Mstislav came to Russia only for the sake of art. Vishnevskaya performed with the role of Catherine II in the play "Behind the Mirror". She also wrote her autobiography, which she called “Galina”. The book was dedicated to the children of the singer.
The world-famous artist, beautiful and strong-willed woman died on December 11, 2012.
