Sculpture: contemporary philosophy of art

The world of contemporary art is full of masterpieces that amaze the imagination. The concept of "sculpture" for many is limited only to those monuments that are installed within the city. But in fact, these works of art are multifaceted and people do not even know about many such creations.

Modern art. Sculpture in all its manifestations

The word "sculpture" itself means "carving" or "carving". The materials from which such works of art are created can be different: stone, metal, plastic, wood, and so on.

Modern sculpture can be presented in various forms:

1. Bust - sculpture mainly on a stand, depicting the upper part of the human body. It can be the head, shoulders and chest. This type of sculpture conveys the real image of a person as much as possible. Differences from the original are minimal.
2. Statuette. These sculptures are small. Basically, figurines are used as interior decorations. They may vary in shape.
3. Statue. This type of sculpture is the main one. Various images are created in the form of statues. It can be a person, an animal or a non-existent object. These figures are attached topedestal.
4. Torso - a human body, which is created in a three-dimensional image. A characteristic feature of the torso is that it does not have a head and limbs.

Whatever the sculpture is modern, the main task of the artist is to create a creation with the utmost conciseness, special inventiveness and expressiveness.

Wood is a living material for creating sculptures

Many artists working with multi-figure compositions prefer wood as their material. Since ancient times, it was believed that this material stores living energy. Sculptures made of wood convey a special warmth that is not inherent in other materials such as marble or metal.

The choice of wood depends on what idea the artist will convey when creating a composition. Wood with a rough texture is usually used for works that express the simplicity and conciseness of forms. For sculptures with many small details, such a tree is not suitable.

Features of working with wood

Before starting work on creating a sculpture, the master artist makes sketches on paper. Ideas often come immediately, but thinking through all the little things takes quite a long time. A lot of sculptors, before starting to cut out a composition from wood, create a sketch from clay or plasticine. Usually in such sketches they do not adhere to the final look and neglect small details and basic proportions. Careful detailing is not required in this work.

After the first stage, the master proceeds to the second - rough processing. There is a definition and selection of basic forms. It is from filing and correction that the entire subsequent result of the work depends.

After the cut is completed, the sculptor, having found the symmetry of the workpiece, will mark it and start rough processing again, but at the same time he will adhere to the main and auxiliary lines. The next step will be cutting down the projection and removing as much excess material as possible, after which an ordinary log will turn into a masterpiece.

Modern sculptors

Many people were able to distinguish themselves and succeed, because modern sculpture does not set limits for fantasy, some works of masters amaze with their realistic forms.

One of the famous sculptors is Peter Demetz. This artist and sculptor was born, raised and lives to this day in Italy, but his talent is known throughout the world. When looking at his work, one gets the impression that they can come to life at any moment. The realism of the compositions of the Italian sculptor is incredibly deep. The details of human bodies that are made of wood are anatomically accurate.

To work with his figures, the master uses only warm woody tones, without applying any other shades.

Most of Peter Demetz's work is small. This decision of the artist is due to the need to be able to place the work in the frame.

Places that hold masterpieces

There are many places in the world where peoplecan get acquainted with such a concept as "sculpture". Modern life provides an opportunity for craftsmen to show their creations to society. Of course, most exhibitions and galleries are located in European countries and America. But there is a museum of modern sculpture in the CIS countries.

Ukrainian sculptor Mikhail Dzyndra opened a museum in his homeland, which is now a department of the Lviv Art Gallery. The first sculptures that were exhibited in the museum were brought by the artist from the USA in the amount of 800 pieces. The sculptor bought all the compositions at his own expense.

Russian creativity in the world of sculptural art is represented by the Moscow Museum. Over 200 pieces on display.

Sculpture is a frozen fantasy

There are no limits for creativity. Fantasy cannot be contained by setting boundaries. History will always keep the memory of the one who creates multiform creations. Each sculptor is individual, unique and interesting in his own way.

Each work presented to the human eye is unique. Each sculpture is a line in the history of art.
