"The Last Airbender" is a motion picture by acclaimed director M. Night Shyamalan. The film is an adaptation of the incredibly popular animated series called Avatar: The Last Airbender. Want to know more about this film? Read the article.

Film "The Last Airbender"

The plot of the film takes place in a fantasy world, which in its setting resembles the medieval Far East. For centuries, four nations - the Water Tribe, the Air Nomads, the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom - have peacefully existed among themselves. Some people had incredible abilities - they knew how to control the elements of their people. Harmony and balance between the nations was supported by the Avatar, which is subject to all four elements.

However, peaceful life has come to an end. After all, once the Fire Nation unleashed a war. Perhaps the conflict could be settled with the help of the Avatar. But, unfortunately, he disappeared without a trace. A hundred years have passed. The war is coming to an end, and the Fire Nation is closer than ever to victory. However, the world has a new hope. A young waterbender of Katara and a warrior of the TribeThe waters of Sokka find the last airbender named Aang, who is the new incarnation of the Avatar. But can the Avatar team stop the Fire Nation and restore harmony to the world?

Antagonists

The Avatar's team is countered by the cruel, bloodthirsty Fire Nation, led by a Fire Lord named Ozai. However, in the first film, Shyamalan did not pay much attention to this character. The Fire Lord appeared only in a couple of scenes, and throughout the film, this hero did not fully reveal himself. And this is the right decision. After all, Ozai is the main villain of the Avatar Universe. Therefore, you should not reveal all the cards at once. Something must be left for the sequels as well.

The main villain of the film is Admiral Zhao. This character is a prominent representative of the warlike Fire Nation. Jao is a symbol of cruelty and aggression. In the film, the Admiral led the attack on the Northern Water Tribe. Moreover, Zhao, in a fit of rage, killed one of the Koi fish, which maintained a balance between the world of spirits and people. This led to terrible events. Luckily, Avatar and his friends were able to fix the situation and stop Zhao.

In addition, Azula, the sister of Prince Zuko, appeared in the movie "The Last Airbender". If The Last Airbender 2 is released, she will surely become the main antagonist of the sequel.

But perhaps the most interesting character in the movie is Prince Zuko. He is a member of the Fire Nation and hunts for the Avatar throughout the film. However, this character cannot be called a villain. Prince Zuko is more of an anti-hero. After all, all his actions have a clear goal and are supported by powerful motivation. Want to learn more about this character? Read on.

Zuko

In the film, Zuko is a talented firebender, the son of Ozai himself and, accordingly, the heir to the throne. One day the young prince decided to attend a military meeting. Despite promising to silently oversee the action, Prince Zuko began to vehemently object to one of the generals' plan. The commander wanted to throw young and untrained soldiers into battle as a distraction, thereby dooming them to certain death. Ozai, believing that his son has behaved unacceptably, orders him to fight a duel called Agni-Kai.

Prince Zuko thought he would fight the general, but as it turned out, his opponent was his own father. After all, the plan announced at the meeting was invented by Ozai. Prince Zuko refuses to fight his own father and starts begging for mercy. However, the Fire Lord believes that the young prince has dishonored himself. It is for this reason that he leaves Zuko with a huge scar on his face and banishes him from the country. Now the prince cannot return to his homeland until he catches the Avatar, which no one has seen for a hundred years.

This is the reason why Zuko pursues the airbender and his team so hard. After all, the only way to return home is the Avatar. Prince Zuko throughout the film is trying to catch the airbender. And in the end he succeeds. In the film, Prince Zuko and Katara fought each other, and after defeating the girl, the firebender finally captured the Avatar. However, Aang managed to escape from captivity.

Iroh

Another significant character in the film's mythology is Prince Zuko's uncle named Iroh. He is a loving uncle and mentor to the prince. When Zuko is driven out of the country, Iroh goes into exile along with his nephew. Although this character is a representative of the Fire Nation, calling Iroh a villain simply does not turn the tongue. After all, in the movie, he tried to stop Admiral Zhao when he attacked Koi fish.

Prince Zuko and Mei

Also, the movie "The Last Airbender" was missing a rather important character named Mei. This is Zuko's girlfriend, whom he was forced to leave because of his exile. This character plays a huge role in the story of the Avatar. And it's a pity that there wasn't enough screen time to show Mei and her relationship with Zuko. However, M. Night Shyamalan will certainly correct this omission in the next Avatar films if the studio does give the director the green light.
