The Crooked Mirror miniature theater, whose actors worked in the humorous genre, was created at the beginning of the 20th century in St. Petersburg. The idea of the project belonged to screenwriter Zinaida Kholmskaya.
The theater did not have its own unique name until 1912. Then the famous Russian poet and publicist Alexander Izmailov published a book with various parodies. The popularity of the theater was overwhelming. The artists were destined for world fame. However, this was not destined to come true. Over time, for various reasons, the theater lost its individuality, a creative crisis has ripened. Crooked Mirror was closed in the late 1920s. XX century.
Age of Humor: Rebirth
Strict Soviet censorship for a long time limited the activities of comedians. Arkady Raikin revived the era of theatrical humor. He was the first on the territory of the Land of Soviets who was not afraid to perform comedy numbers on stage. This is how the Arkady Raikin Theater appeared, under whose supervision Evgeny Petrosyan, Mikhail Zhvanetsky and others began to work. The humorous performances of the actors were always sold out.
At the beginning of the 21st century, Yevgeny Petrosyan came up with the idea of creating a theater of variety miniatures. He decided to name it in honor of that very famous theater - "Crooked Mirror". Comedy actors happily supported him.
The new life of the Crooked Mirror
An agreement was signed with the ORT TV channel to shoot a comedy show. Viewers saw the first issue in January 2003. The high ratings of the program spoke for themselves. The Crooked Mirror, whose actors lifted the spirits of the whole country, has become a favorite entertainment TV show.
Now the theater works in the following genres:
