The very first theaters appeared in Moscow in the 16th and 17th centuries. To date, there are more than 150 of them in the capital of our Motherland, including acting associations that work in various genres.

Famous Obraztsovsky
The list of theaters in Moscow, which are designed to delight young viewers, is headed by the most famous and most important Puppet Theater in the country, S. V. Obraztsova. It was created by Sergei Vladimirovich in 1931. There is a unique largest museum here, where theater puppets from different eras and countries are collected, viewers can watch its collection before the start of the performance (the museum starts its work 40 minutes before the start of the performance) and during the intermission. The repertoire is extensive and covers all ages - there are performances for both children and adults. The world-famous production of "An Extraordinary Concert" is listed in the "Guinness Book of Records" and has been a hallmark for a decade now. Since 1970, the troupe has a new building, its facade is decorated with a unique clock, every hour they play the melody “In the garden or in the garden”, and around the clock face, doors in drawers open in turn, each of which houses a fairy-tale character.

The first production was the legendary Broadway rock musical Hair, which Stas Namin saw and heard in America. He inspired the musician at one time to create his brainchild. Every year the troupe delights its audience with five premieres. The auditorium is small, designed for only 230 seats, but it is precisely this intimacy and close contact between the audience and the artists that helps make the performances even more unforgettable.
Moscow operetta
Another famous stage of the country, which is included in the list of Moscow theaters that show musical performances to the public, is the Moscow Operetta. It was opened in 1922. This is one of the leading stage venues not only in the capital, but throughout the country, famous and popular all over the world. The repertoire consists of classical operettas by I. Kalman, I. Strauss, F. Lehar, as well as works by Soviet composers: I. Dunaevsky, T. Khrennikov, D. Shostakovich and others. The head of the Moscow operetta today is Vladimir Isidorovich Tartakovsky. In addition to traditional performances, musicals that are fashionable in our time have appeared in the repertoire, both foreign, translated into Russian, and already ours, Russian. The very first musical staged on this stage was the Metro project, then Notre Dame de Paris and Romeo and Juliet appeared, now it's Monte Cristo and Count Orlov.
Drama
The most common type of theater in the capital is drama. There are most of them here, whileall of them have a varied repertoire, from classical to contemporary. Small theaters in Moscow also belong to this genre. There are two of them in total - the main one, which is located at Teatralny proezd, 1, and its branch on Bolshaya Ordynka, 69.
Maly theaters in Moscow offer the audience performances based on plays by A. N. Ostrovsky, A. K. Tolstoy, A. P. Chekhov, F. Schiller, N. V. Gogol, M. Yu. Lermontov, D. I. Fonvizin, E. Zola and other classics.
