Building

The Volkovsky Theater is located in a building built in 1909. The project according to which it was built was created by the architect N. A. Spirin. The facade and side walls of the building are decorated with sculptural compositions. There is a portico. On it is a sculpture of Apollo-kyfared, who is the patron of the arts. Next to him Melpomene and Thalia are the muses of tragedy and comedy. The opening of the new theater building took place in 1911. On this occasion, K. S. Stanislavsky himself sent a telegram with congratulations and wishes to the Volkov drama.

Volkovsky Theater is the organizer of several festivals in the field of theatrical art. One of them is held for creative youth. It is called "The Future of theatrical Russia". Here, young artists who have just graduated from a university or a secondary specialized educational institution get the opportunity to make a professional debut. Every year, about 400 graduates from different cities, future film and theater actors, take part in the festival. Lectures, master classes, creative meetings are held here. As part of the festival, a newspaper is printed with the title"Gag" - it is published by future theater critics. Young theater artists create an exhibition of their work. The festival is also an exchange of talented individuals. Casting companies and representatives of theaters come here, thanks to which many participants receive invitations to work in cinema and theater. The Volkovsky Theater also holds an International Festival. Its motto is "Russian dramaturgy in the languages of the world". Leading theater companies from Russia and foreign countries take part in the festival.
