And who doesn’t want to return to the cozy atmosphere of childhood with the help of good old books? The story "Cat Ivanych" is perfect for this.

About the author

The famous Russian and Soviet writer-naturalist Georgy Alekseevich Skrebitsky was born in 1903. The discreet landscapes of the Tula forests and meadows made a deep impression on the boy and remained forever in his memory and works. Having received a serious multidisciplinary education - literary and zootechnical - Skrebitsky is the bestIn a way, he combined his main life hobbies by writing his first works in the late 1930s. Already the first collections of stories "Coot and Cunning" and "Hunter's Tales" brought Georgy Alekseevich fame and love of big and small readers.

Subsequently, Skrebitsky actively collaborated with the magazine "Murzilka", printing short stories for the little ones. The author also contributed to the compilation of the collection "Native speech". The scripts for the cartoons "Forest Travelers" (about brave squirrels) and "In the thicket" (about a funny badger) were also created by this wonderful writer.

The pinnacle of Skrebitsky's work was two stories: "From the first thawed patches to the first thunderstorm" and "Chicks grow wings." Both works tell a lot about the childhood and adolescence of the writer himself. Unfortunately, the second story remained unfinished due to the sudden death of Skrebitsky in 1964.

Features of creativity

The main theme of the works of Georgy Skrebitsky has always been nature in its constant variability and special beauty. Deep knowledge about the life of various animals, as well as exciting scientific expeditions and reckless hunting were a great help for the writer.

A characteristic feature of his work is short, but capacious and unusual titles of stories. "River Wolf", "Chir Chirych", "Thief", "Long-nosed Fishermen", "Kuyka".

OftenSkrebitsky uses unhurried, but not lengthy descriptions of the surrounding nature at the beginning of the stories, drawing the reader into the Karelian swamps or pensive forests of the middle lane. And often he suddenly introduces the main character - an animal, a fish or a bird. Yes, not simple, but with their habits and habits. And what happens to this hero next depends on the story. Even stories about hunting and fishing do not look bloodthirsty in Skrebitsky. They are full of fun excitement and fully prove that the struggle between the getter and the prey is on an equal footing.

"Cat Ivanych" is another vivid example of how Skrebitsky describes his "little brother" and his peculiar life with humor and love. A small funny story conquers both children and adults with its sincerity.

"Cat Ivanych": summary

In fact, the whole story is a collection of mini-sketches from the life of the most ordinary, at first glance, domestic cat. What adventures did the cat Ivanovich get into! And he smeared himself in the dough, and caught rats in the barn (albeit only for his own pleasure), and even made a difficult friendship with a hedgehog.

All cases in the story are semi-anecdotal, now there are many videos with similar stories. The passion that the cat Ivanych had for fish quickly disappeared after he was grabbed by the paw by a large cancer. The cat also gets from the crows that encroached on his prey from the barn. And the way the cat Ivanovich settled down in the dough makes you laugh heartily at his loveto comfort.

Only the last episode makes the reader tense. Moving to a new apartment is a difficult time for pets, and the author is worried about how everyone will perceive this furry favorite. However, there is no need to worry about Ivanovich's devotion: after a brief overview of the new house, he understands that all his relatives are nearby, and fully accepts the new life.

Main characters

Georgy Skrebitsky divided all the characters in the story into two groups. Ivanych the cat, Bobka the puppy, the hedgehog, crows and other small animals are the first and main group. Despite the realism of the story (the animals do not talk and do not resemble people), the reader immediately understands the character of each hero: Bobka is cheerful and stupid, crows are arrogant, the hedgehog is at first wild, like any forest dweller, but then gets used to a new friend, seeing that he will not do anything bad to him.

There are few people in the story - the author himself, his mother and brother. Curious is the fact that they all appear in the story only sporadically, mostly acting as observers. Of course, mother has to untangle Ivanych from the dough and wash him in a basin. Of course, she is frightened by the terrible prey that the cat brings from the barn. And yet she treats his tricks calmly and with humor, takes them for granted. And the cat Ivanovich sees her warm attitude, answering the same. It is no coincidence that his favorite place during family dinners is next to the narrator's mother. It is there that the cat fully understands and accepts the family's move to a new home.

Warm and trustingthe relationship between owners and animals is described by Georgy Skrebitsky in his story. And yet people are not the main characters here. "Cat Ivanovich" is a work more about little animals endowed with their own characters and characteristics.

It is no coincidence that the author chose the name for the main character. This is not a simple nickname, like, for example, Murzik or Fluff - Georgy Skrebitsky called his story for a reason. "Cat Ivanych" … Just listen! Importance, solidity, character are combined here with a warm, friendly attitude (otherwise the cat would be called Ivanovich).

From the first lines, the reader will recognize one of the main features of a cat - laziness. Moreover, this laziness does not cause irritation, we immediately understand that this feeling is absolutely normal not only for cats. And when the author contrasts Ivanych's laziness with Bobkin's stupidity, the choice becomes quite obvious.

Ivanych loves simple worldly pleasures - a warm couch (even in a tub of dough), tasty fish (it will also do from an aquarium), small entertainments and boasting to the owners (barn rats). Sometimes the cat has to suffer for them, but he endures everything steadfastly. And here we learn about one more, the most important feature of Ivanych - kindness.

Skrebitsky compares his hero with a devoted dog. Cat Ivanych everywhere relentlessly follows his masters, meets and escorts them. And even when the author fears that their pet will run away to the old apartment, he is mistaken. Once again, comparing Ivanych with a dog, the writer concludes: their cat is far fromthe most common.

"Cat Ivanych": the main idea

The theme of many of Skrebitsky's works was the interaction of people and animals, domestic or wild. And a characteristic feature of this interaction is mutual understanding. Both people and animals accept each other with all the advantages and disadvantages, get along together and become friends.

Yes, Ivanych has many traits of a wild cat: greed, laziness, mischief, hunting instincts that wake up from time to time. But at the same time, he is a kind and affectionate pet who will never betray his family. Even Ivanych got used to the wild prickly hedgehog, having shared lunch with him. And his owners see this, appreciate his devotion and gentleness towards those he loves.

Language Features

The story is read in one breath, not only because of the small volume. It is written in very simple worldly language. It is as if we are listening to a boy who tells interesting stories about his cat. It is curious that we do not know what color Ivanych is - we only know that he is big and fat. This gives us the opportunity to compare almost any cat with him, thereby making him even more familiar to readers.

Skrebitsky talks about the everyday activities of the cat in the present tense, and we seem to see Ivanych washing his face, basking in the sun or climbing into the aquarium for fish. And special incidents are described in the past tense.

The stories flow so smoothly from one to another that the reader hardly notices it. The cat's laziness is replaced by his adventures in the barn, but then it turns out that he is not a rat.eats, but loves fish. And so another episode begins. The measured life of a cat is perfectly reflected in the measured, endless narrative.
