The romantic film "Before We Part", reviews of which will be discussed in detail in this article, is the directorial debut of Chris Evans. This is a beautiful, quiet, gentle movie starring famous actors.
Plot of the picture
Before We Part (2014) tells the love story of two very fragile, delicate people who don't always get along but prefer to stay together all night.
The story begins with a rather sweet encounter at Grand Central Station in New York: in a rush to catch the last train to Boston, Brooke drops and smashes her phone in front of jazz musician Nick. Missing the train, the girl returns to the main terminal, where Nick gives her broken cell phone. After learning that Brooke's wallet with all her cash and credit cards has been stolen, he decides to help her get back home. Thus begins the adventure of the heroes in Manhattan at night, which will force them to confront their fears and help heal their heartache for the next few hours together.
Actors "Before welet's part"
In addition to directing, Chris Evans also played the lead role of the beautiful loser Nick, the jazz trumpeter. Evans is one of Marvel's most attractive men, playing Captain America in the popular franchise. The same decency and chivalry Chris carried over to his film.
Using a friendly and soft smile, Evans creates an image of a person charming and lost, which will cause a certain amount of pity from the audience. Brooke, played by Alice Eve, in turn, is sometimes forgotten, seems withdrawn and cannot trust a man. For example, in the first minutes of meeting Nick, her behavior goes beyond, comes to frankly bitchy, and even the nicest guy would probably give up trying to help her. According to reviews of Before We Part, Nick and Brooke don't seem more real or complex than the smiling characters in the Sunday ads. Their countless crises and emotional experiences seem superficial and do not evoke the proper response from the audience.
Similar to the Richard Linklater trilogy
Many film critics in their reviews of "Before We Part" draw an analogy between Evans' script and the 1995 melodrama Before Dawn. More than twenty years have passed since Parisian University student Celine Delpy and American tourist Jose Jesse first saw each other on a train bound for Vienna. They then impulsively decided to spend the day together before Jesse returned to the US the next morning. Themthe discussions focused on everything that connects people to each other: love, life, religion, philosophy. They seemed like two really alive, complex people sharing a passionate body-mind connection that you would love to spend more time with and get to know them better. As the couple roam the streets of the majestic city, director Richard Linklater's gentle watchful eye captures the insecurities and intoxication of young love, from the first awkward signs of attraction to the hopeful promise Celine and Jesse make after their inevitable breakup.
Reviews of "Before We Part" suggest that Evans is clearly aiming to make a fresh and engaging film, emulating Linklater's success, but he lacks the skills to make the characters look natural. Most of Brooke and Nick's time is spent with the people who hurt them, it's like going on a date with someone who will only talk about their ex.
Conclusion
Both actors are attractive. They show as much depth and sensitivity as the finely crafted roles. The characters' problems and fears aren't complex enough to be exciting, and ultimately they don't become anything more than just script banalities.
