Moscow Satire Theater turns 93! A very impressive date…
Now he has at his disposal a respectable room on Triumfalnaya Square, 2. There are two stages for performances - Large and Small. You will find photos of the schemes of the halls of the Theater of Satire in our article.
And in 1924, on October 1, when the first production took place - “Moscow from the point of view”, - the theater had a basement at the address: Bolshoy Gnezdnikovsky lane, 10. And the name of the institution where the premiere took place, "The First House of Nirnsee" - before that there was the Bat Theater, and now the GITIS Educational Theater.
But it was on that day that the Moscow Academic Satire Theater was born!
And then what?.
Already in the thirties, the newly-made theater moved to another building, which was located on Sadovo-Triumfalnaya Street. Previously, there was a variety show here, and a little later another Moscow theater, Sovremennik, settled down.
And there was no question of any scheme of the hall of the Theater of Satire at that time. Because the halls were very simple and modest in their capacity. chiefwas that there was a place where you can rehearse and play performances - if not in front of a large, but the audience!
But when the theater in 1965 moved to a new building, which once housed the Nikitins circus, with a huge stage and a hall with a capacity of 1250 people - that's when it began to truly new life!
According to the scheme of the hall of the Theater of Satire, it can be seen that this is a spacious theater room with an amphitheater, stalls, boxes.
Under the dome of the room is the "Attic of Satire", to which very steep stairs lead.
A bit of history…
In the very first production - "Moscow from the point of view" - young writers, playwrights played:
- Viktor Efimovich Ardov;
- Volin Boris Mikhailovich;
- Erdman Nikolai Robertovich;
- Nikulin Lev Veniaminovich and others.
The artistic director of the theater at that time was Gutman David Grigoryevich.
At first, the repertoire of the Theater of Satire (it was also called "Terevsat") included small propaganda plays and observers ("Moscow from the point of view"). The themes of these productions, as a rule, concerned the pressing problems of politics, the life of the people, the city. On stage, they could be seen from the other side, from a different angle.
The director of the theater D. G. Gutman was a very talented director who knew how to find an approach to each actor, stir up, inspire, reveal any creative idea thrown to him by young people, bringing it to a miniature scene, which was then shown on theater stage.

Mayakovsky's plays "The Bathhouse", "Mystery Buff", "The Bedbug" and others, which were already staged in the post-war years, brought wide popularity to the Theater of Satire. It was with these productions that the Theater truly declared itself as a serious comedy.
The epochal event was the arrival in 1957 of a new director - Valentin Pluchek. It was under him that the most colorful and popular theater troupe was created: A. Mironov, A. Papanov, T. Peltzer, V. Vasilyeva, O. Aroseva, M. Derzhavin, A. Shirvindt and others.
The most famous productions of the new director: “Was there Ivan Ivanovich?”, “Sword of Damocles”, “Terkin in the next world.”
Theatre today
"We are still funny" - the slogan of the theater now! And it's true, he's still the same comedy-satire until now. Moreover, since 2000 Alexander Shirvindt has become its artistic director.
The layout of the halls of the Theater of Satire is currently visible in the photo below.
1. "Attic of satire" for 150 people.
2. "Big Hall" for 1250 people.
