It's not that easy to draw a bird realistically and convincingly. This is a very complex work of the Almighty … If only because it can fly. A bird in flight and the same bird sitting quietly on a branch are far from the same thing. And yet we will try. And before swinging at other birds, let's think about how to draw a rook. We chose it for its relative simplicity of form and monotonous coloring, which does not distract the inexperienced eye with the brightness of plumage.

Thoughtful, consistent and purposeful. We draw a bird in stages. Let's analyze its shape. We outline with light strokes large contours of the main masses, build a structural frame and cover it all with plumage. Even at the stage of the general layout of the future drawing, we do not forget about the movement or balance of the bird. We carefully check the proportions of the main parts, adjust them if necessary with the help of an eraser and a pencil. Any realistic drawing is based on correctly taken proportional relations. And only after we make sure that they are correct, we can move on and understand the task of how to draw a rook.

At this stagewe carefully work out the details and nuances. In no case do we try to mechanically accurately redraw on paper all the small details that are revealed to our eyes. The graphic image differs from photography in that it is an analysis and a careful selection of details. Therefore, from the whole set of details, we focus only on those that seem to us bright, characteristic. On everything that emphasizes the visible form and gives it a linear and volumetric expressiveness. As the drawing progresses to the final stage, you need to look at it as a whole and generally, without fixing your eyes on the little things. With wide, light strokes we try to generalize the figure of a bird and give it a complete look. Some attention should be paid to what surrounds it, the bird must be in its natural habitat. We meticulously examine our work and analyze how successfully we coped with the task of how to draw a rook.

Now let's watch other birds

There are a lot of them around us. If we try to draw them, we will make sure that they have a lot in common with the rook known to us. But no two birds are the same, they all have their own characteristics. And the easiest way to deal with these features is by drawing short sketches and sketches. These drawings are simple, in several lines. Let them be even inaccurate and caricatured. But such short "handwriting" makes it possible to grasp the characteristic features of the depicted nature. This is what immediately catches the eye when looking at a new subject of graphic study. And onbased on the most successful sketches, one should move on to more thorough work. Of particular interest are birds in flight. Often the techniques of such graphics are conditional and already worked out. Many artists have painted birds, we see the results of their work from childhood when we watch cartoons. And these graphics are often very expressive. There is no reason not to take advantage of this experience.
