Drizzt Do 'Urden is a book character created by science fiction writer Robert Salvatore, as well as the hero of a series of computer games set in the Forgotten Realms universe. Drizzt first appeared in the pages of Icewind Dale, and then Salvatore wrote a separate series about this hero, which began with a prequel trilogy that tells about the youth of the character.
Creating a character
Drizzt Do 'Urden (dark elf, or drow) was invented by the author for the book Shard of the Crystal, published in 1988. Initially, Salvatore planned to make the main character of the work of the barbarian Wulfgarg. But the editor of the publishing house demanded that the author come up with an unusual companion for her main character.
Salvatore, without leaving the editor's office, came up with a name for the new hero and the main characteristics - a drow ranger. In further work on the book, the author polished the image of Drizzt, giving the dark elf the features of his belovedmovie hero - Zorro.
Drizzt has become a favorite character of Salvador and most of his readers. He often tops polls and ratings dedicated to the heroes of the Forgotten Realms universe.
Biography
Drizzt Do 'Urden (character of the Forgotten Realms universe) is the youngest of the sons of Malice, matron of the ninth House of the drow city of Menzoberranzan. His father was the gunsmith of the house - Zaknafein. The third son in the family, Drizzd was to be sacrificed to the goddess Lolth, according to the custom of the dark elves. But on his birthday, the eldest son in the family was killed, his death was considered a sacrifice.
Raised little Drizzt Virna, his sister. Since childhood, the youngest son was very different from other drow in his manifestation of mercy. Thanks to his father's natural dexterity and training, Drizzt became an excellent swordsman. However, the cruelty of the relatives led to the fact that the hero fled. He wanted to call his father with him, but Malice sacrificed him to the goddess Lolth.
After escaping, Drizzt spent many years in the Dungeons. In these wanderings, his only companion was the panther Guenhwyvar. Loneliness had a detrimental effect on his mental he alth, and he fell into a berserker rage more than once.
Later, Drizzt met the dwarf Belwar, who became his companion. But the family did not forget about him, continuing to follow, then the drow decided to leave the Underground and go to the surface.
Surface
On the Surface, Drizzt Do 'Urden became as outcast as he had been among his brethren. People pursued him and tried to kill him, considering him dangerous. Which-Drizzt spent that time in a grove where the ranger Montolio lived, who taught the elf how to live on the Surface. After Montolio died, Drizzt traveled to Icewind Dale. Here he befriended the Dwarf King Bruenor and Catti-Brie, his daughter.
After that, Drizzt became famous as a magnificent warrior and became a hero of the Vale, taking part in the battle against the barbarians and the war with the mad sorcerer Akar Kessel. Then the dark elf went to Mithril Hall on Bruenor's campaign, in which he made himself a serious opponent - the assassin Artemis Entreri.
The drow once again raid Mithril Hall, resulting in the death of Wulfgar, Drizzt's friend and Catti-Brie's fiancé. for years afterward, Drizzt struggled with the dilemma of whether he had the right to be with Catti-Brie, especially when Wulfgar was resurrected. The elf's suffering ended when Wulfgar married another girl and Catti-Brie chose Drizzt.
The invasion of the dark elves was stopped only by the combined forces of the Garpells mages, dwarves and the knights of the Silver Moon. After these events, Catti-Brie and Drizzt left Mithril Hall and fought the pirates for the next 6 years, sailing on a ship under the command of Deudermont. However, the past did not leave the lovers there either. Using various tricks, the demon Errtu lured Drizzt and Catti-Brie to the Valley of the Wind, where they had to fight evil. During the battle, it turned out that Wulfgar was actually alive, although he had changed due to the suffering experienced in demonic captivity.
War with orcs
Wulfgarleaves his friends, because he does not think that he will not be able to live in peace after everything that he experienced in captivity with Errtu. Meanwhile, Drizzt Do 'Urden and his friends set off to destroy the Crenshinibon artifact. But Jarlaxle tricks them and then takes the Crenshinibon. The friends catch up with the kidnapper, and Drizzt is forced to fight Artemis Entreri, the dark elf's nemesis. The parties part ways after Jarlaxle fakes Drizzt's death.
Wulfgar returns to the company after a long wandering. And friends go in search of the Fang Protector, which lost Wulfgar.
Mithril Hall's war breaks out with Obould, the king of orcs, who has gathered a huge army. Returning with his subordinate dwarves, Bruenor Battlehammer decides to separate from the main army and poison himself for reconnaissance along with friends and the most trusted people. This ends with them finding themselves in a walled city surrounded by orcs, cut off from the main military force. Drizzt sets out to scout, but the orcs are closing in on the fortress and he is cut off from his friends. The drow sees the orcs break through the defenses and break into the city. Drizzt, certain that his friends are dead, goes on a rampage and slaughters the orc tribes at night.
But in fact, Bruenor and the others escape and return back to Mithril Hall, where the main battle with Obould's forces takes place. As a result, during the battle with Drizzt, the orc king falls into a crevice.
End of the war
Drizzt Do 'Urden finally returns to Mithril Hall and reuniteswith friends. Here the drow tries to spend all his time with Catti-Brie. At the same time, he tries to persuade Bruenor to make a truce with the orcs, which is actually Obould's real goal.
In the orc army, dissatisfaction with the actions of their king begins to grow. A group of conspirators appears and attempts to overthrow Obld. The king manages to escape death at the hands of traitors only thanks to the help of Drizzt and Bruenor. After that, the dwarves and orcs sign a peace treaty.
Pirates
After these events, Drizzt Do 'Urden, whose books of adventures are popular all over the world, joins Captain Deudermont, who is trying to defeat the lich Arklem Grith, who leads the Main Witch Tower of the city of Luskan and helps pirates.
Drizzt and Deudermont eventually succeed in destroying the lich's physical form, stripping him of his power. Deudermont is appointed ruler of Luskan. But because of the conspiracy of the Supreme Captains, he dies, and all power goes to this society. Drizzt and Deuderman's surviving companions manage to break out of the city. Despite the fact that the rulers of the city have suffered heavy losses, the Tower of Sorcery is still intact, and falls into the hands of Valindr, the apprentice of the defeated lich.
At the same time, it becomes clear what happened to Wulfgar - he returns to Icewind Dale, to his homeland, to the place where his path began long ago. Here he managed to find peace of mind, and the visions of demonic torture finally began to recede. He lived in peacethe life that his ancestors lived. His path has diverged from that of the dark elf, and he will no longer participate in the adventures that Drizzt Do 'Urden will get involved in more than once.
The drow adventure comic is basically a repetition of novels and is not very popular in our country.
The last book
In 2009, the last book about the adventures of the drow was published, which was called "King of Ghosts". This novel describes a Spellplague that has thrown the world into chaos. Artifacts are destroyed, mages die, impostors call themselves kings - all of this and more is up to Drizzt and his friends to deal with.
Drizzt Do 'Urden: personality and appearance
Drizzt is very different from other drow. Their cruelty, meanness and deceit are alien to him. It was for his humanity and nobility that he became an outcast among the dark elves. An excellent example of the hero's personal qualities is the episode in which he saves people who previously hunted him.
Drizzt worships the nature goddess Mielikki, unlike other drow who worship the bloody spider goddess Lolth.
Salvatore describes the appearance of the elf very roughly, so readers usually form an opinion about his appearance from illustrations. It is known for certain that Drizzt has purple eyes and dark complexion, he is of medium height, has well-developed muscles and a lean physique, he has long hair.
