In the late 70s and early 80s in the UK, such a musical genre as synth-pop, related to the direction of electronic music, gained popularity. The main feature of synthpop is the demonstrative "artificiality" of sound, which the musicians achieved with the help of synthesizers.

Many well-known musical bands worked in this style: Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode and others. In the late 80s, Erasure's songs were stable in the tops of the American music charts.

History of the creation of the team

The band was formed in 1985 by Vince Clarke and Andy Bell. It is noteworthy that Clark was also one of the founders of Depeche Mode, but soon left this band.

After several years of working in various bands (Yazoo, The Assembly), Vince Clarke decided to create a new duet. He organized an audition, as a result of which Andy Bell became the second member of the as yet unnamed group. The name was found in the summer of the same year, since then it has not changed.

Debut albumWonderland, recorded in the autumn of 1985, did not receive much success among synth-pop fans, but the following year the single Sometimes was created, which became a hit in European countries and made the Erasure group truly popular both in their native England and abroad..

In 1987 the band performed in the USA together with Duran Duran. Shortly thereafter, the song Victim of Love, included in the album The Circus, took first place in the US dance charts.

Discography

To date, the duo has released dozens of singles and 16 studio albums, the last of which was released in 2017 under the name World Be Gone.

The most successful Erasure albums are The Innocents (1988), Wild! (1989), Chorus (1991) and I Say I Say I Say (1994), which topped the UK charts.

The most popular singles were Sometimes (2nd place in the UK charts), Blue Savannah (1990, 3rd place in the charts) and A Little Respect (1988, 4th place in the charts).

Andy Bell also has two solo albums released in 2005 and 2010. In an interview, Bell announced that he intends to continue his solo career, but at the same time remain a member of the duet.

Group currently

The duo didn't break up, it still exists. Despite the fact that the peak of Erasure's popularity came in 1986-1995, and today they are not so commercially successful, Vince Clarke and Andy Bell continue to make music, releasingalbums and singles both as a duet and solo.

Also, Erasure never stop interacting with their listeners, from time to time giving concerts, going on musical tours and participating in various reality shows. The last tour so far took place in 2011, during which Andy Bell also took part in the show Popstar to Operastar on one of the British TV channels.
