The Sovremennik Theater (on Yauza) has existed since the middle of the twentieth century. It was founded by young and enthusiastic actors. Today it is one of the most famous theaters in the country.

About the theater

The Sovremennik Theater (on Yauza) was founded by Oleg Tabakov, Galina Volchek, Evgeny Evstigneev, Oleg Efremov, Igor Kvasha and other graduates of the Moscow Art Theater School.

The basis of the repertoire from the first day of its existence and to this day is made up of plays written by contemporary playwrights. Many of them were created specifically for the theatre.

Oleg Yefremov was the first leader of Sovremennik. The troupe often travels around the country, and everywhere the actors are accompanied by a constant full house.

The chief director of Sovremennik has been Galina Volchek for many years. Thanks to her, plays appeared in the repertoire that were previously unfamiliar to our audience. Of course, it cannot do without eternal classics: N. V. Gogol, A. P. Chekhov, F. M. Dostoevsky and many other authors.

In essence, there is no such thing as "Sovremennik" on the Yauza. Since 2014, the theater has replaced its main stage, whichis located at Chistoprudny Boulevard, house No. 19A, temporarily works at another site - in the Palace on the Yauza. This is due to the fact that the Sovremennik native stage has been closed for major repairs since 2015.

During its creative life, the Sovremennik Theater (on the Yauza) has experienced many ups and downs. Its address is Zhuravlev Square, house No. 1.

As before, these days the theater goes on tour very often. It regularly happens not only in various cities of our vast Motherland, but also in other countries: in the USA, the B altic States, Finland, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and many others.

One of the best actors in the country has always worked in the Sovremennik troupe. This trend has not changed today. Among the artists - a large number of stars who are known to a wide audience.
