Old comedy films that have become classics of Russian cinema are remembered by the viewer as an endless series of funny moments, gags and catchphrases. The famous 1968 painting, The Diamond Arm, is no exception. There are wonderful aphorisms there, both about the house manager - a friend of a person, and about a maturing client, and about a pack and a water pump (in fact, it’s not such a bad purchase at all), and, of course, “damn it.”

Password

In our films, passwords were used many times. This is a flower pot for Professor Pleishner on Tsvetochnaya Street from Seventeen Moments, and a Slavic wardrobe with a nightstand (“The feat of a scout”), and many other conditional words and phrases. The common expression "damn it" performed the same function. "The Diamond Arm" is a film that was conceived as a parody of a detective story. Even its author, Leonid Gaidai, could not imagine that the picture would go far beyond the Procrustean lodge of this genre and become a completely separate work of art. This happened for many reasons. But first about the main plotvicissitudes, they deserve it. Those who lived at that time or know enough about it to catch all the nuances can understand all the humor.

Storyline

So, the villains conceived a crime. His very idea is already causing laughter among connoisseurs of the era. Bringing gold coins to the USSR in order to pass them off as a found treasure and get a quarter of their value is an absurd occupation. Gold in the Union was much cheaper than in the "world of profit and cleanliness", so if it was smuggled across the border, it was in the completely opposite direction. Then a very interesting question arises, how did a Soviet citizen, who embarked on the path of criminal profit, manage to find reliable and trustworthy partners in capitalist Turkish Istanbul. Sending his emissary Kozodoev, a man of a free profession (a fashion model at the Fashion House), on a mission, "Chief" told him the password: "Damn it." It should have been pronounced after an imitation of a fall (the Turks deliberately put a watermelon peel, for plausibility). Who knew that another person would fall and say the same phrase?

The story of the "little man"

And the script was a success, and the selection of actors was successful, and they played with inspiration. The main character of the film was an ordinary person, whom Charlie Chaplin called "little". Semyon Semyonovich is the most ordinary Soviet citizen, who lived in the late sixties, is married and has two children. He had a military background, like most of the men (and sometimes women) of this generation, but he is not focused on. Is nota scientist, not a boss, not a poet, he is the most ordinary citizen. Therefore, his arguments about a possible award (posthumously) look very comical, especially considering that the text full of tragedy is pronounced in shorts. When Semyon Semenovich falls on the asph alt of a foreign city, those waiting for an unknown Russian tourist cannot understand why he said "damn it." Did you really hurt yourself or did you name the password? But the long wait, in their opinion, was crowned with success, and they joyfully bandage the hand of the Soviet tourist, not forgetting to put “gold-diamonds” between the bandages.

How to curse properly

Actually, remembering the evil one too often is not worth it, as the priests think. He said - and he already stands behind his shoulders. In the old days, swearing was considered a sin, but in our time, when expressions are sometimes much stronger from the lips of even young girls, they no longer pay attention to it. On the other hand, as soon as the phrase has received a certain distribution, then you need to know how to say it correctly. "Damn it" or "Damn it"? It is possible that the representatives of the underworld scratch, but in this context, the second option is still more appropriate, in the sense of capturing the soul and then sending it to hell. "Damn your soul," was how the curse originally sounded. By the way, the password was just that, it was repeatedly repeated with gusto by the foreign accomplices of the smugglers who did not know the Russian language from the film "The Diamond Arm".
