Musical comedy (Yekaterinburg) opened its doors in 1933. The city leadership decided that the people needed a theater where cheerful musical performances would take place. To this big date, the team went without wars of a creative nature, without great losses, without abrupt changes in leadership and directions in work, without revolutions. The theater managed to keep its traditions. Here they honor the old school. A laboratory has been opened at the Musical Committee, where new ideas are created, interesting performances are born, directors are given complete freedom of creativity. All this thanks to the talented and creative leadership of the institution.

The performances of the theater have been awarded many times with various awards, including the most prestigious ones. There are seventeen "Golden Masks" in the piggy bank of the music committee. In 1983, the Sverdlovsk operetta was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. And three years laterevents, the theater was the first in its genre to receive the title of "Academic".

Musical Committee of Yekaterinburg is always in sight and often finds itself on the top step of the podium, beating its metropolitan counterparts. More than ten premieres of world significance and scale took place on its stage. A whole galaxy of talented artists has grown up here. The theater has brought up more than one generation of spectators.

Chief Director

K. S. Sterzhnev is the main director of the theatre's performances. In 1977 he graduated from the Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinematography in Leningrad.

In the same year, the musical comedy (Yekaterinburg) invited him to their team as a director. After 9 years, he became the chief director of the theater. He has held this position to this day, for almost 30 years.

Kirill Savelyevich has staged more than forty performances over the years of his creative activity. He works as a guest director in many cities of Russia and abroad.

In 2004, K. S. Sterzhnev was awarded the title of "People's Artist of Russia". In 2008 and 2011 Kirill Savelievich won the Golden Mask award in the Best Director nomination for the musicals Dead Souls and Silicon Fool.
