Krasnodar theater began its activity in 1933. Emerging from the operetta enterprise, he went through a path of more than 75 years, during which the troupe, creatively transforming, changed its name five times.
The emergence of new genres
In 1997, the Krasnodar Theater received the status of a musical theater, which made it possible to expand the creative boundaries and include major genres such as opera and ballet in the repertoire.
Chief choreographer Vladimir Pak assembled a ballet troupe, which in two years brought to life eight ballets, such as: A Thousand and One Nights (F. Amirov), Don Quixote (L. Minkus), Pavane Mavra" (G. Purcell), "Bravo, Figaro!" (composer G. Rossini) and others. Since that time, the theater troupe has been replenished with young and talented vocalists and dancers, among whom V. Bulatov, O. Silaeva, M. Shulga, V. Kuznetsov stand out.
Invitation of masters
In 1998, a new stage in the development of the culture of the Kuban began, this is due to the emergence of a new artistic director D. Saetovich, under whom the musical theater (Krasnodar) took offto a whole new level. He raised the professional bar and invited bright personalities to cooperate: conductor of the Bolshoi Theater Fuat Mansurov (People's Artist of Russia) and director Boris Zeitlin, which could not but affect the level of performances.
"Golden Mask" - to the Musical Theater (Krasnodar)
The repertoire was replenished with operas: The Stone Guest by composer A. Dargomyzhsky, The Barber of Seville (composer G. Rossini), Faust (composer Ch. Gounod), Violet of Montmartre (I. Kalman). The operetta “And the Acacia Blooms Again” by composer I. Dunayevsky, staged by B. Zeitlin, took part in the Golden Mask-2000 festival. The performance was met with interest by the capital. The "Golden Mask" was awarded to the stage director of the performance G. Averin.
As part of the KGTO "Premiere"
A new round in the history of the theater began with the decision of the administration of the Krasnodar Territory, which in January 2002 announced that the theater was part of the KGTO Premiere, the general director of which was L. G. Gatov (People's Artist of Russia).
From now on, a large-scale reconstruction of the building begins. Repair work did not last long, on August 31 the theater was opened to the public. The acoustics of the theater needed improvement, therefore, work was done to increase the orchestra pit, and the auditorium was completely redone. The lighting on the stage was replaced, ballet halls were built, repairs were made in the acting rooms of the building, the foyer and facades of the building were restored, adjacent territory. This is how, updated, today we see the theater.
Musical Krasnodar: premieres
Large-scale work on the reconstruction of the building did not in the least prevent the theater staff from working on a new repertoire. The transformed theater was opened with the premiere of the ballet "The Golden Age" by D. Shostakovich. A week later, the audience appreciated the premiere of the opera "Carmen" by composer J. Bizet, staged by director A. Stepanyuk (St. Petersburg) and conductor V. Ziva. Then, after 14 days, another premiere was given to the judgment of Krasnodar residents - the opera "Eugene Onegin" by composer P. I.).

The creative atmosphere reigning in the team helped the creators to realize an interesting idea. The Musical Theater (Krasnodar) presented to the audience four programs of the cycle "Scenes from Russian Operas". The listener had an amazing opportunity to enjoy the wonderful performance of the most popular and favorite fragments from the great operas in one evening. These concerts are unique in that they are often not heard even in the theaters of the capital, as the arias of famous operas were written for rare voices.
The huge success with which the concerts were held, and the desire of the public to see their favorite numbers again, forced the management to select the highlights and arrange a gala concert, giving it the name "Russian Operas: The Best of the Best".
