Greta Garbo - the favorite of the public of the early twentieth century

One of these actresses was the inimitable Greta Garbo. Her family was in complete poverty after the death of her beloved future actress father. Therefore, at the age of 15, Greta had to leave the walls of the school to get a job in a hat store. The young girl was already inspired by the legends of world cinema, but because of poverty she could not go to study acting.

Hollywood star from the hat shop

One fine day, fate smiled at Greta (her real name is Gustaffson). A well-known operator of a studio located in Stockholm became a guest of her store. The young man invited the girl to take part infilming a commercial. As soon as Greta was on stage, the film studio realized that the girl looked amazing in the frame. Starting in 1922, the future actress began to hone her professional skills at the Academy at the Stockholm Drama Theatre. Fateful for her was a meeting with director Moritz Stiller, who became the author of her pseudonym.

The director really appreciated Greta's talent, but his passion only concerned her acting abilities. Stiller did everything so that Greta could break into a big movie. Then, in Berlin, the actress met with another serious director - Louis Mayer. This time, the path to Hollywood was opened for the actress.

Decision to leave career

However, having achieved success after filming in many famous films, Greta Garbo dreamed of leaving the acting path forever. The only thing stopping her from realizing this intention was her financial condition, which had shaken after the Great Depression. But at the age of 36, she still took this step. The flurry of criticism and general attention that fell on the actress did their job, because even the legends of world cinema remain ordinary people inside themselves. With money in order, Greta Garbo began to live a normal life.
