Nikolai Leskov created many wonderful works about the life of ordinary Russian people. The whole world appreciates and loves this talented Russian writer for his insight, patriotism and humanism. One of the brightest creations of Leskov was and remains the story "Lefty".
It begins with the journey of Emperor Alexander Pavlovich across Europe: in order to "see miracles." Platov, a Cossack from the Don, does not support the tsar's surprise, for he is sure that the Russians can do just as well.
The story "Lefty", the brief content of which is the story of the creation of a masterpiece (a savvy flea), describes in detail the most diverse miracles that exist in the world. Upon returning to his homeland, the sovereign boasts of his amazing court acquisition - a dancing mechanical flea.
After the death of Alexander, his successor Nikolai Pavlovich appreciates this flea, but vanity and national pride are pushing him to find masters among Tula people who can shame foreigners.
The following is a summary of the story "Lefty" describes Platov's journey through Russia, his meeting with three masters, one of which is Lefty. The same, before starting work, decide first to visit the temple with the icon of Nicholas the Wonderworker, and after that they are locked up for three days in the house of the oblique master Levsha.
Just doesn't want to tell Platov the secret of action of the created masterpiece Levsha. The summary is further based on the fact that Platov has to take Lefty to the palace. However, the king and his daughter are also furious, seeing that the "abdominal mechanism" of the flea is inactive. So, the masters not only did not improve the curiosity, but also caused damage to it!
For that, Platov cruelly "beats" the deceiver, demanding him to confess his sin. But in response, the master explains to him that one should look at the miracle through a stronger “fine scope”. And the sovereign does as Lefty tells him.
Summary of the story should continue with the fact that this microscope did not reveal the secret to the king. And then Lefty proudly declares: you need to look not at the whole flea, but only at one leg.
How surprised the autocrat, seeing a tiny horseshoe on each foot of a flea! And Lefty also claims that the master wrote his name on the hat of each carnation - how!
Next, the story "Lefty", a summary of which is presented here, takes the reader along with the master abroad, where he is sent in order to present a flea as a gift to the British or, more simply,to wipe the nose of foreigners.
The British are sincerely surprised by the skill of a commoner, they offer him to stay there, to marry any beauty. But he refuses these honors, but Lefty still draws his attention to the state of the “English” guns!
Summary of the final part of the story is a description of Lefty's journey to his homeland. How great is the anguish of the Russian patriot! How great is his desire to return home as soon as possible! He is not even afraid of the approaching storm.
On the way, Lefty shamelessly drinks to argue with the skipper, as they say, to hell. Because of this, the skipper ends up in the embassy's house, and Lefty - in the "quarter", where he loses his English gifts. From there, the masters are sent straight in an open sleigh to die in a hospital for the poor.
The half-skipper, who was quickly put on his feet thanks to the “kutta-percha pill”, searches for his “comrade” for a long time and finds out that he is already dying. Lefty manages to say a phrase that disturbs him to Dr. Martyn-Sobolsky, sent by the skipper.
The last words of the patriot were not requests of a personal nature, but excitement about cleaning Russian guns. After all, the British do it not with the help of bricks, as in Russia! However, these words never reach the sovereign. That is why (in the words of Leskov) the Crimean War ended tragically. Oh, if the rulers of the world listened to the voice of the people!
Leskov's unforgettable story today remains one of the most read and republished not only in Russia, but throughout the world, because it contains ideas that are relevant to this dayday.
