In the Marvel comics, the Thing is described as impossibly tall, with gigantic limbs and a head. But this does not negate the fact that any unprepared person's knees are shaking and their hair stands on end at the sight of this sinister colossus - lumpy hands, a body - a sheer rock, a face all cracked …

But with all this, what a striking contrast of conspicuous appearance and eyes! Blue is the color of lightness and purity, a color that has never been doubted by anyone. And, of course, this is the color of the eyes of a stone big man. Light blue like the sky and reflecting his true inner self.

Childhood (still human)

The full name of the character in human form sounds like this: Benjamin Jacob Grimm, however, it is so long that even the hero himself was more pleased when he was called simply Ben. The future superhero was born in America, according to some sources in Manhattan, according to others - in New York. And yet, in both cases, the fact of the father's alcoholism and the many problems that have occurred on this basis remains the same. Ben's father really drank constantly, and there was not enough money for basic things, such as buying food for children, things, tuition fees.

In those yearsnot having male authority nearby, Ben began to be inspired and admired by his brother's deeds. Daniel (Daniel) Grimm was somewhat of a leader of a street gang of teenagers who often staged brawls in different parts of the big city. At first, there was just friendship in this gang, but then Daniel realized that the family was practically falling into the abyss due to lack of money and this had to be stopped somehow.

Thus, the elder Grimm is now the leader of a real and very dangerous street group, the Yancy Street Gang, in which everyone covers each other, but can also surrender at one moment. Money appears, the family is a little better, and it is during this period of life that little Ben begins to sincerely admire his brother and try to imitate him in everything. But this did not last long. In the world you have to pay for everything, so Daniel paid in full … He is brutally murdered when Ben turns 8.

Almost an orphan

That day, the boy's mind turned over, and after a while he himself led the same gang as his brother. He was angry at the whole world, he hated every gleam of the sun, he hated everything that lived and in every possible way reminded him of his dead brother.

After several years, Benjamin's parents died, so he ended up in the house of his uncle Jack. In a new house with new rules, the boy is not so fast, but surely moving towards becoming himself again, the same calm, kind and sympathetic person that he was. And he almost succeeded: he gets into a new school, easily settles down there, after a couple of months the guy shows extraordinary abilitiesIn sports. Some time later, these abilities were noticed and worthy of a high scholarship.

Early years

Moving to the school dormitory opens up a new acquaintance for the future superhero. A brilliantly intelligent guy named Reed Richards (the future Mister Fantastic) turns out to be Ben's roommate, and therefore they spend enough time talking, so that later they consider each other true friends. One day, Richards shares with Ben his old pipe dream - to build a ship for space flights with his own hands. The idea seems unrealistic to both young men, so Ben jokes without any hope that he will then become the pilot of the built ship. But fate is too unpredictable to forget this conversation between two students.

In the future, Benjamin Grimm really becomes a first-class pilot. After training, he gets a job in the United States Air Force. At the same time, Reed Richards, diligently trying to implement his idea and find a source of financing for his own spacecraft, finally sees a white streak in his life. The government agreed to finance the project, however, if there is a ship, then someone who would manage it is also needed. And, of course, only one candidate pops up in Richards's head, volunteering for the services of a pilot.

Creating the Fantastic Four

Because construction is taking too long, the government threatens Richards with cutting off funding for the project. As a result, Reed, in pursuit of time, decides to test the ship with moreincomplete protection system. Few people support the idea, but the ship, which has four people on board - Ben, Reed, and their friends - brother and sister Sue and Johnny Storm - still takes off.

The defense system has been completely breached. The team falls into the center of a huge hole of cosmic radiation. The entire crew receives a huge dose of radiation, but Ben, despite the fact that he got, if not more, then no less than everyone else, still managed to return the ship back to Earth.

And only on Earth, four friends began to feel strange changes in their bodies. The most terrible burden fell on the shoulders of the pilot - on that day, radiation destroyed Benjamin Grimm and created a new Creature (Marvel Comics), frightening in its appearance and with incredible abilities. And the other members of the flight ceased to be ordinary people: the abilities of the human torch, the invisible woman and Mr. Fantastic found containers to serve humanity. Thus, the Fantastic Four was created.

The Girl Who Changed Everything

In the early days of the Fantastic Four, things were as good as superheroes can be. But then the mutation in Ben's body began to progress: now he turned back into a man less and less, his strength increased by several orders of magnitude, and his skin became even more impenetrable and indestructible.

At one point, Grimm simply ceased to be a man, remaining forever a Creature. The inflamed mind of the inhuman was manifested by fits of uncontrollable rage. Ben was on the verge of complete psychological self-destruction, but a woman appeared in his life that helped him change his mind about everything that surrounded him.

A sculptor named Alicia Masters, blind from birth, gave Ben faith in himself and faith in a bright future, which even a formidable superhero must have.

At first there was just friendship, then love arose between them.

Betrayal

Throughout the history of the Marvel Universe, the Thing turns into a human and then back into a Thing several times, and each time this happens due to exposure to radiation or gamma rays. Richards is well aware of this reason, but he carefully hides it from a friend for his own interests. Lost in conjectures, the Creature settles on another planet, where he manages to change incarnations. Returning to Earth, he learns that one of the "Four", Johnny Storm, becomes the lover of his girlfriend Alicia. Plus, now he can change his appearance, therefore, he reveals the secret of the psychological block and immediately finds out that his friend Reed lied to him.

In a rage, the Thing breaks off all contact with friends and leaves the Fantastic Four.
