The theater is a mystery that every new generation of stage art fans is trying to unravel. This is an unknown land where passions boil, fortresses collapse, stars are born and illusions die.

Cultural traditions of the North Caucasus

Since ancient times, Stavropol has been a real cultural mecca. The road to the Caucasus and further passed through this city. In the 18th century, those regions served as a place of exile for freethinkers, people with imagination, progressive thinkers.

Decembrists Odoevsky and Naryshkin, exiled but not broken, breathed the steppe air of the region.

The great Pushkin and the young rebellious Lermontov have been to the city more than once.

Diplomat, writer and composer Griboyedov stayed in Stavropol for a few days.

The presence of such outstanding people could not but affect the cultural development of the townspeople. That is why the Drama Theater arose so quickly. Stavropol became the center of concentration of art.

The history of the theater

A little more than half a century has passed since the datefoundation of Stavropol, when the first attempt was made to open a theater. Unfortunately, the experiment ended in failure, because people far from art were involved in the embodiment.

After two years, the effort was successful. The merchant-philanthropist Gonilovskiy built the building of the theater from stone. The house has survived to this day, it houses the House of Officers.

Since 1845, the first Russian Drama Theater has been counting down. Stavropol will celebrate the 170th anniversary of its temple of art this year with pride and pleasure.

In early October 1910, the troupe moved to a new building. It was built by the Mesnyankin brothers, merchants who patronize art. This building has also survived to this day, it houses the State Regional Philharmonic Society.

The Drama Theater is becoming an integral part of the life of the townspeople. Stavropol supported the development of cultural traditions.

Post-revolutionary years

The troupe's repertoire and direction changed radically after the revolution. In 1920 the theaterrenamed the First Stavropol Theater named after V. I. Lenin. Calls for a new life and condemnation of the old foundations sounded from the stage. From the end of the thirties, the word "regional" was added to the name of the theater.

From the first days of the Great Patriotic War, patriotic plays appeared in the repertoire, glorifying the immortal spirit and strength of the Russian people. Performances went almost to the occupation of the city. During the fighting, the theater building was damaged.

In 1944, by the forces of the cast, two brigades were formed for performances at the front. They played half a thousand performances. The centennial anniversary fell on the year of the end of the war. Drama Theatre, Stavropol, everyone who cares about the cultural heritage of the city, celebrated a significant date.

In 1964, a new renaming - Drama Theater. Lermontov. Stavropol gave the audience and actors a gift in the form of a new building. It is located on the main square of the city. The neighboring square was named Theatrical, and a monument to the poet was erected in it. Performances are staged on this stage in our time.

Troup

Actors are the backbone and pride of the theatre. It is they who embody the ideas of the director, bring their own unique nuances to the vision of the roles. Every evening they go on stage and give the audience their game. Thanks to them, you want to return to the theater repeatedly.

Any team, especially a creative one, needs a sensitive and talented leader. For many years E. I. Lugansky has been the head of the Drama Theatre. Stavropol and the theatrical community in his person receiveddeeply devoted to art, fair and sympathetic person.

The theater scene remembers such masters as M. Kuznetsov, V. Danilchenko, M. Kaplan, A. Bokova, V. Menshov, M. Mikhailov, V. Fomenko, M. Yakovenko. In different years they were involved in performances. Served as an example for young actors, gave pleasure to the audience.

Since 1984, People's Artist N. Zubkova has served as a permanent member of the troupe. She not only plays in performances, but also acts as a director. Winner of government awards and prizes. Has been teaching since 2000.

Seven theater actors have the title of honored artists. Several were awarded the rank of leaders. Not every theater can boast of its own author. In the Stavropol theater he is. M. Novakov masterfully prescribes the plots and characters of his plays.

Thanks to the work of these wonderful, dedicated people, the theater bears the title of Academic Drama Theatre. Stavropol honors the theatrical traditions of its native land and contributes to its development in every possible way.

New generation

The main personnel for the theater are brought up in their hometown. On the basis of the Humanitarian Institute, a faculty of arts with an acting specialization was opened. Leading actors and directors of the drama theater share their experience and skills with young people.

In 2015, the fourth set is being prepared for release. Many young actors, by tradition, will continue to work within the walls of their native theater. Future artists are lucky that the leading teacher on the course is the inimitable N. P. Zubkova.

Repertoire

Today, as before, the basis of the repertoire is classical plays. The audience weeps and laughs at the works of Shakespeare. Thinking about the creations of Chekhov, Ostrovsky, Artsybashev. They love and suffer along with the heroes of Schiller.

For many years in a row, the hall explodes with laughter and applause during the performances of "Extraordinary Adventures at the Mirandolina Hotel" and "Khanuma's Tricks".

The performances based on the works of M. Yu. Lermontov are a special pride of the troupe. This made the Drama Theater (Stavropol) famous. "Masquerade" and "Hero of Our Time" will be relevant for a long time. Cruelty, hypocrisy, deception, life choices excite a person of any era.
