The name Sharon Carter is well known to die-hard fans of the Marvel superhero universe, especially those who love Captain America stories. The character is related to Peggy Carter, another popular heroine who worked with Cap during World War II. Sharon works for the special organization S. H. I. E. L. D., whose main goal is to fight crime. In comics and films, the heroine was repeatedly addressed by her code name - Agent 13.

In the original story, Sharon and Peggy are sisters (younger and older), and they had a romantic relationship with Captain America. A little later, due to a temporary paradox, it was decided to change the relationship of the girls - so they became a niece and aunt.

History of Appearance

Sharon Carter was created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers. Her first appearance was in the 75th issue of "Troublesome Stories".

In one of the Captain America comics (237), Sharon Carter dies unexpectedly. Despite this, they decided to revive her in issue 444.

Biography

Sharon's parents are Harrison and Amanda Carter. The heroine was very close to her aunt, Peggy (full name Margaret), who once fought alongside Steve Rogers. It was from her that the young Sharon learned many stories about the brave Captain America, inspiring her subsequent work as a special agent of S. H. I. E. L. D.

Her first mission was to capture a cylinder containing a powerful explosive, codenamed "Inferno 42". During his execution, Sharon met with Captain America, who, due to the girl's strong resemblance to her aunt, mistook her for Peggy. A little later, he saved her mercenaries and at the same time prevented the seizure of explosives.

The collaboration between the Captain and Sharon Carter continued, while her true identity remained secret. During the execution of the next mission, feelings flared up between the heroes, which then grew into a real romantic relationship. After Sleeper Four was destroyed, S. H. I. E. L. D. allowed Agent 13 to reveal his true identity to Steve Rogers.

After a while, Carter was tasked with maintaining communications between S. H. I. E. L. D. and the NYPD. At the rally, Sharon became one of the victims of a special type of gas that was developed by Doctor Faustus. At the time of the mass kidnapping, the girl managed to activate an explosive device built into a special suit. Thus, the death of Agent 13 and the end of her story was shown.

The return of Sharon Carter's character was sudden - readers were revealed a completely different interpretation of the story that took place at the rally. It turned out that the death of Agent Carter was staged and planned by Nick Fury. At a certain point, unforeseen difficulties arose, and Sharon was left without any support on the side of the enemy. After that, the girl sided with the Red Skull, but was soon found by Cap and returned home.

History after returning

Despite everything, Sharon was still obsessed with Fury's revenge for betraying her. When news of Nick's death reached her, she decided to get inside S. H. I. E. L. D., where she was discovered by other agents. In an attempt to escape, Carter used an energy portal and ended up in Nazi territory during the Second World War. Already on the spot, she met Nick Fury, who revealed to her the truth of his "staged" death and spoke about the motives behind such a decision.

After hearing everything, Sharon agreed to help Fury escape. Together, they deal with agents who want to destroy the portal, and manage to teleport.

The story of the character in the 21st century

As a result, Sharon rejoined SHIELD and even managed to be the leader. After that, she received a position as a liaison officer and became involved in surveillance and transmission of the actions of Steve Rogers. A further collaboration between Captain and Agent Carter became the Winter Soldier case.

Afterof the events of the Civil War, Doctor Faustus and the Red Skull were able to gain control over Sharon's mind. When a sniper shot at Rogers, the girl fired 3 additional shots at him, and then forgot about what had happened. The memories returned to her much later, thanks to the intervention of the Red Skull's daughter. She also learned that Tony Stark intended to treat the body of the deceased Captain America as a "specimen" that could help obtain the formula for the Serum. Carter could not stand it and left the ranks of S. H. I. E. L. D.

Sharon was ready to commit suicide, but at the very last moment she found out about her pregnancy. Her mind was still under the control of the enemy, so when the other Marvel characters Natasha and Falcon came for her, she was ordered to attack them. After that, Sharon went to the Faustus base, where the captive Bucky Barnes was also being held. He was assigned to kill Agent Carter, but he violated orders and shot the Doctor.

Soon, Natasha and Sokol entered the base - they managed to divert the attention of the enemy to themselves and give Bucky the opportunity to deal with the guards. Then the villains again took advantage of their control over Sharon Carter and ordered her to stop Barnes. The girl knocked out Bucky with a stun gun, and then climbed aboard the ship with him. At the last moment, Sharon managed to throw the prisoner off the ship, explaining to Faustus that this was the only way they could get rid of the chase.

Participation in Secret Avengers

After his resurrection, Steve Rogerstook over as CEO of S. H. I. E. L. D. Under his leadership, a team of Secret Avengers was created, which included Sharon and other famous Marvel characters.

Later, the girl participated in the battle against Baro and Baron Zemo, where she fought side by side with Captain America. It is believed that Sharon Carter sacrificed her life to save Earth from an invasion by Dr. Arnim Zola. Everything looked as if the girl had died in a giant explosion. In the alternate world of Ultimate, Sharon still works for S. H. I. E. L. D. and is a frequent guest in the Ultimate Spider-Man comics. Together with her partner, the girl is engaged in the investigation and prevention of social violations related to illegal cases of abnormal mutations. Because of this work, her paths constantly cross with Spider-Man.

One day she ended up at the place where Spider and Doctor Octopus fought, and a little later, her squad discovered a secret laboratory responsible for experiments on Sandman. During the events of The Clone Saga, Sharon helps with the evacuation of the locals; in "Death of the Goblin" girltalking to Ms. Marvel about killing the Green Goblin.

Marvel Mangaverse Plot

After Captain America died at the hands of Doctor Doom, Sharon Carter took over his suit. Then Nick Fury contacts her, who is tired of fighting envy of the abilities of superhumans and has lost his mind. Together they unite against the superheroes and deal them a crushing blow.

Earth X and What If events

In the alternate universe of Earth X, Agent Carter is a Hydra victim created by Norman Osborn himself.

As for the events of What If, the following happens here: Steve Rogers receives an offer to lead S. H. I. E. L. D., and Bucky Barnes becomes Captain America. Sharon begins to develop feelings for Bucky. The three of them are trying to get into the territory of the HYDRA base in order to capture Baron Zemo. The battle ends with Bucky's death. Later, during the funeral, Agent Carter expresses his condemnation to Rogers. In her opinion, it was Steve who was responsible for the fact that Bucky turned into a weapon of war and met his death.

Appearing outside of comics

Sharon's character first appeared in the film "Captain America" in 1990. Then the role of Agent 13 was played by actress Kim Gillingham.

The modern viewer met Sharon thanks to the film "The First Avenger: The Other War". The character was played by Canadian actress Emily Irene VanCamp. History in the pictureslightly different from the comic book plot. In The Other War, the character Sharon goes undercover and monitors Captain America's protection by pretending to be a neighbor in the stairwell. With the dissolution of SHIELD, the girl goes to work for the CIA.
