Popular Canadian actor-comedian, producer and screenwriter John Candy was born on October 31, 1950 in Newmarket, near Toronto. Known for a number of comedy films such as Plane, Train and Car, Canadian Bacon and Uncle Buck.
Education and Filming
John Candy began his artistic career on the stage of children's theater, and when he entered the faculty of journalism at McMaster University in adulthood, he tried his hand at cinema. Candy made his debut in the 1973 film The Class of '44. Then the actor participated in several low-budget film projects that went unnoticed at the box office.
John Candy, whose films did not arouse much interest among the audience, became a popular comedian only after starring in the satirical comedy "1941", directed by Steven Spielberg in 1979. Fame also added participation in the film "Splash" with Tom Hanks in the title role, and then a role in the film"Brewster's Millions", after which John woke up famous.
Films and TV
In the early 80s, John Candy became involved in entertainment projects on TV, such as Second City Television, without leaving the cinema. He managed to combine various TV shows and perform comedy roles in films, there was enough time for everything. Over the course of ten years, Candy has appeared in more than twenty feature films.
However, starting in 1990, luck changed the actor, and his popularity began to decline. Several unsuccessful roles in a row, and John Candy, whose films were already not included in the top ten, became even less in demand.
Negative prize
To top it all off, the actor was nominated for the Golden Raspberry anti-award for his female role in the comedy "Some Trouble". In the submission, it was written "Worst Supporting Actress". Two more unsuccessful films of that time: "Once Upon a Breaking the Law" and "Delirium" - completed the picture of the decline of John Candy.
The actor, however, decided not to give up and made an attempt to expand his role by adding more dramatic roles to his asset. He starred in Oliver Stone's political thriller "John F. Kennedy. Shots in Dallas", where he played the dishonest lawyer Dean Andrews.
Buying a football team
Yet John Candy is an actor who has decided to become a businessman. To do this, he, along with his friends WayneGretzky and Bruce MeekNall acquired the Toronto Argonauts, a Canadian football team.
The right move was made: the purchase of a sports team by such celebrities could not go unnoticed, the action attracted the attention of the public and the press. The new owners of the Argonauts have invested a lot of money in the acquisition of talented players and the conclusion of long-term commercial contracts.
The sudden death of an actor
John Candy's life ended on March 4, 1994, when he was in Mexico filming the movie Caravan to the East. The actor died in his sleep from sudden cardiac arrest. Tellingly, shortly before his death, Candy spoke on the phone with all his friends, including sportsman Larry Smith, and informed them that he had fired the entire Toronto Argonauts team, and also instructed lawyers to put it up for sale.
Actor John Candy, whose comedies were included in the lists of world cinema, was buried at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California.
Memory
John Candy's personalities are immortalized in Canada's Walk of Fame. In May 2006, the actor was honored with his image on a postage stamp of the National Postal Service of Canada. In 2000, a sequel to the film "The Blues Brothers", the original version of which was filmed in 1980, was released in memory of Candy. Canada's highest sporting award, the 95th Gray Cup, was dedicated in 2007 to John Candy.
Roman Catholic Lyceum in the areaToronto's Scarborough named its art studio after John Candy, a former alumnus. The commemorative plaque displays his words once said: "The foundations of success are based on the life values that were instilled in me at this school, as well as on the principles of mutual respect and discipline."
John Candy is survived by two children: son Christopher and daughter Jennifer. His ex-wife Rosemary Hobor single-handedly coped with the upbringing of the younger generation. Adult Jennifer currently works as a TV producer, working for Sam's 7 Friends and Prom Queen.
