The film "Dallas Buyers Club" is a real story about a man who, despite the terrible forecasts of doctors, managed to win seven years of a full life from fate. To do this, he had to do the incredible: completely change his life priorities. But he coped with all the trials and became a real hero in the eyes of his compatriots. About this unusual story - later in the article.
Start
Reviews about the "Dallas Buyers Club" are not always unambiguous. Many people have questions about the plot of the picture. How can a person who, through his own fault, fell ill with an incurable disease become the hero of a film? However, the ways of the Lord are inscrutable. Perhaps Ron Woodrooft was destined to do something extraordinary. And the impetus for a complete rebirth was a terrible diagnosis made by a doctor in a Texas clinic.
So Texas native Ron Woodrooft(Matthew McConaughey) never really thought about his own life. He worked as an electrician, was fond of rodeo and was a tireless sex addict. An incredible number of prostitutes visited his arms. And our hero was not going to stop there.
Ties
Everything changed after the accident at work. Ron ended up in the hospital, where he was diagnosed with AIDS. The prognosis was deadly - the man had only one month to live. Beside himself with horror, he turned to Dr. Eve Sachs (Jennifer Garner), who specialized in such problems. From her, he learned that the clinic is testing the drug AZT, which can prolong the lives of HIV-infected patients. Ron found a way to get this cure. However, he began to take it along with alcohol and drugs, which made him even worse.
During another bout of illness in a hospital bed, a man met a transvestite Rayon (Jared Leto). He shared Ron's love of life and was treated with AZT.
Organization of the club
Further, fate brought Ron to Mexico. There he learned that AIDS is incurable, but there are remedies that can prolong the patient's life. Rare drugs are not used in the US, but are very effective in combating immunodeficiency. The man decided to deliver them to his homeland on his own.
In Texas, Ron reconnected with Rayon. Together they formed the Dallas Buyers Club. The story continued in a completely new way: now the hero helped not only himself, but also others. The point is that the drugshe used were banned for sale in the US. In order to legally distribute them, Ron had to organize a club. Membership cost $400, and drugs were supposedly distributed free of charge. The venture became so successful that the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) became interested in it. The brisk trade was quickly shut down. And Ron was forced to look for alternatives.
Decoupling
Meanwhile, another bout of illness happened to Rayon. He was taken to the hospital, where he was stuffed with AZT. The unfortunate man died. And it gave Ron new strength. If earlier he was driven by a thirst for profit, now he was ready to lead a public movement to fight for the rights of HIV-infected people. In 1987, he sued the FDA to return the confiscated drugs and allow them to be distributed in the United States, but lost the case. The judge dismissed the claim with a caveat: the plaintiff is allowed to use the drug for personal use. After his return from the capital, former clients greeted the man with a standing ovation. He deserved the recognition of people who knew well what he had to go through.
The Unstoppable Ron Woodrooft
Most of the reviews about the "Dallas Buyers Club" express genuine admiration. The lion's share of compliments went to Matthew McConaughey. For the sake of this role, he accomplished a real feat - he lost 22 kilograms. In addition, he had to part with the image of an unearthly handsome man who made girls on both sides of the Atlantic so happy. Now he appeared in the image of Ron - rude, cruel and uncoutha guy with an ugly appearance and the same disgusting habits.
However, as the story progresses in "Dallas Buyers Club", the hero begins to be reborn. First he is driven by anger, then despair, then apathy. His meeting with the doctor in Mexico can be considered a real miracle. After all, Ron did not just stop using alcohol and drugs. He found a new purpose in life and revealed a huge potential in himself. Literally a year later, he was already operating with might and main in medical terms, mastered the trade of smuggling, fought successfully against the system and no less effective drug trade. And all these metamorphoses were brilliantly embodied on the screen by Matthew McConaughey. According to the audience, the "Oscar", which he received for this role, is a well-deserved award for high professionalism and extreme dedication.
Charming Rayon
Jared Leto is extraordinarily charismatic. Show business is his forte. Everything that this illustrious showman undertakes invariably brings fame and money. He is equally successful in music and acting. And each role in his performance becomes a real event. The positive feedback about the "Dallas Buyers Club" is largely due to his merit.
The actor approached the embodiment of the image of Rayon very thoroughly. He lost 15 kilograms and fully got used to the role. According to rumors, the actor refused to take off his makeup in between filming and shocked ordinary citizens with his appearance during shopping trips. Transvestite in his performance - touching, sensitive and incrediblya beautiful character with a difficult fate and a difficult death. Nobody wants to die. And Rayon, in a wild desire to survive, beats like a butterfly against glass. But for all his frivolity, he is not just a capricious diva. At the right moment, he helps a friend get back on his feet and restore the elusive hope.
Jared Leto won an Oscar for his supporting role. Many consider his Rayon to be the most poignant character in Dallas Buyers Club. The photos published in our article will help you appreciate the charm of this hero.
Good doctor, evil doctor
The struggle of two polar worldviews is shown in the picture with all the sharpness and intransigence. All roles in the "Dallas Buyers Club" are bright and memorable. But Dr. Yves Sax played by Jennifer Garner deserves special attention. This woman gives all her energy to help her dying patients. She cannot save their lives, but she is able to alleviate the last moments of existence. Her inner struggle between conventional wisdom (trust official directives!) and personal impulses (do no harm!) continues throughout the film. In the end, sincere love for people wins. She cherishes every patient who turns to her for help.
The merciless Dr. Seward is portrayed on screen by Denis O'Hare. This character is remembered for his inflexibility. He is absolutely convinced that everyone should follow the instructions from above. And it is openly admitted that the sale of expensive drugs is a profitable business. Seward - main antagonistRon in the picture. Unfortunately, he remains undefeated.
Reviews
Reviews of the "Dallas Buyers Club" exceeded all expectations. No one thought that a low-budget picture would be such a success. However, numerous awards speak for themselves. The film won six Oscars, six Rome Film Festival awards, two Golden Globes, two Satellites, etc. What is the secret of such an unprecedented recognition?
Practically everyone noted the enchanting game of McConaughey and Leto. They are truly inimitable. However, this is not the only issue.
Americans love films about fighters against the system. A loner who managed to survive in the fight against an omnipotent corporation - is this not a topic for a serious conversation? Such resilience deserves respect, especially since the film is based on real events.
Besides, Americans are obsessed with political correctness. And in the center of the story is a real miracle: an ardent homophobe becomes a friend for all the despised at that time gays. Such a metamorphosis deserves deep respect.
Summarizing all of the above, we can conclude that the plot of the "Dallas Buyers Club" not in vain caused a stormy resonance in society. After watching this film, many wanted to ask themselves: what am I capable of in order to survive? And everyone would answer this question differently.
In closing
Many of those who have seen the painting believe that everyone should see it. And it does not matter that you did not have time to go to this movie in the cinema. "Dallas Buyers Club" can be safely purchased on a licensed disc to leave later in your home collection. This is a great tape for those who love interesting life stories and do not pursue external special effects.
