The adventure drama Cast Away was released on December 7, 2000. The director's chair was taken by Robert Zemeckis, known for such films as "Forrest Gump", "Back to the Future", "The Walk". Written by William Broyles Jr.

Storyline

The film takes place in 1995 in Moscow. In the center of the plot is Chuck Noland, who works as an inspector for the American delivery service FedEx. He is working on the organizational issues of personnel in Russia. Returning to his homeland, the man meets his fiancee Kelly Frears, who accompanies him to the next business flight.

During the flight from the USA to Malaysia, the plane with the inspector crashes in the Pacific Ocean and only Chuck manages to stay alive. He finds salvation on an inflatable raft, which moves away from the plane and eventually washed up on the shore of a desert island.

He will spend more than four years here. During this time, the hero experiences all the "charms" of Robinson's life stories, starting with the "art" of breaking coconuts and trying to make fire.

One day the main character catches one of the dead crew members and buries him. Along with the body, undelivered FedEx parcels appear on the shore of his new "home", which contain various Christmas gifts that help the man in the arrangement of life.

Among the delivery service's "gifts," Chuck discovers steel-bladed skates and a volleyball, which is named "Wilson" after the sporting goods manufacturer of the same name. The latter becomes not just an object of leisure, but a real and only friend with whom the hero constantlytalks and consults in order to maintain the moral standard of society. One package found on the shore remains sealed with the "hope" of salvation.

After four years of living on the island, Chuck finds a broken toilet stall and plans to use it as a sail to a makeshift raft in order to overcome the surf. Having built a wooden structure, "Robinson" goes to the open sea away from the island. After a few days of sailing, he is picked up by a cargo ship. Returning to the US, Chuck learns that nothing remains of his former life.
