The history of the Novosibirsk theater "Red Torch" is very interesting and not quite usual. It has existed since the beginning of the 20th century. The building that houses this theater celebrated its centenary in 2014.

From the history of the theater

The Red Torch Theater has existed since 1920. The history of its creation originates in the glorious city of Odessa. It was there that a troupe was formed under the direction of director Vladimir Konstantinovich Tatishchev. Theater "Red Torch" for 11 years was mobile. Only in 1932 he became stationary and received a place of residence in the city of Novosibirsk. The building, built in 1914, houses the Red Torch Theater. The history of this building is no less interesting. It was built according to the project of the famous Novosibirsk architect Andrey Kryachkov. Before the theater, the building housed the Commercial Assembly, where business meetings, balls, as well as performances with the participation of amateur actors were held. Several renovations have taken place here. The building of the theater today is one of the architectural monuments of Novosibirsk. Thanks to the appearance of its own troupe in the city, culture began to develop, other artisticcenters. The head of the theater created it as the embodiment of the stage ideas of such great teachers and directors as Stanislavsky, Meyerhold, Tairov. Today the troupe is still faithful to Russian traditions. But at the same time, the theater is also open for searching for something new, for experiments.

The performances of the Red Torch were nominated six times for the Golden Mask National Theater Award. The theater tours the cities of Russia and often takes its productions abroad. Over the past few years, the troupe has traveled to Finland, the USA, China, Poland, Germany, Greece and so on. Since 2003, the theater has been publishing its own newspaper. Since 1999, he has been actively participating in all-Russian and international festivals. Such famous directors as Jan Willem van den Bosch from England and Riccardo Sottili from Italy worked on the stage of the Red Torch. The main director of the theater is Timofey Kulyabin. Reconstruction

The building of the theater "Red Torch" was renovated a few years ago. Reconstruction was carried out from 2004 to 2008. All theater premises have been completely renovated. The roofs have been replaced. The interiors have been restored in their historical form. During the reconstruction, the Small Auditorium was built from scratch. It is designed for 120 seats. Now the theater has two auditoriums. The large one can accommodate 510 people. Both stages after reconstruction are equipped with the most modernequipment. Each room has its own separate entrance and wardrobe. During the reconstruction, the following were restored: the window openings near the portico on the eastern facade, the domed lantern was returned to the roof, the decor of the window frames, the window openings of the second floor and the arches on the first floor, the images of torches on the eastern facade. The main entrance is now open from the other side - from Lenin Street.

"Three Ivans" - a fairy tale based on the play by Yuli Kim, which is known and loved by more than one generation. In 1980, a film was made based on it. This is a wise story about the all-conquering power of love that can disarm even the most cynical, about honesty and true friendship, which is not afraid of any villains. A fairy tale about goodness, stronger than which there is nothing in the world. The king's son, Ivan, was born. And on the same night, a boy was also born to the cunning Varvara the housekeeper. And soon a foundling appeared in the palace. All of them were named Ivans. And everything would have been fine, but the envious housekeeper decided to replace the king's son with her own. Which Ivanov will be king? Who has to work hard all his life - to bend his back? Who will sing songs? Who will be able to outwit Koshchei the Deathless himself? And with whom will Princess Milolika go down the aisle? The Red Torch Theater will give young viewers answers to all these and many more questions.

New Siberian Transit

Since 2001, the Red Torch Theater has been holding an Interregional Festival. Initially, it was called "Siberian transit". This project in 2005 was recognized as the best at the International Festival "Diaghilev's Seasons: Perm - St. Petersburg - Paris". The author of the idea is the director of the theater Alexander Kulyabin. Since 2010, the festival has been called the New Siberian Transit. Thanks to its existence, the touring movement in Siberia was revived. The festival takes place once every two years. It shows the best dramatic productions of theaters in Siberia, the Urals, and the Far East. The festival brings together like-minded people who want to draw the attention of a wide audience to their creative achievements. The symbol of the "New Siberian transit" is the wheel. Now the festival takes place exclusively in Novosibirsk, where theatrical groups from the three regions mentioned above come together. And before that, it was really a transit event and was held first in one city, then in another. Thanks to this festival, summer exchange tours, meetings of theater directors, viewing of a large number of productions by young novice directors, communication between critics and troupes, and so on, became possible. In autumn (6 months before the festival), the jury members travel around Siberia, the Urals and the Far East, watch various performances and choose the best ones to be invited to participate in the New Siberian Transit.

V. P. Redlich - the largest Siberian director of the 20th century, headed the Red Torch Theater (Novosibirsk) in the 50s of the last century. She had the title of People's Artist of the RSFSR. Thanks to her, the Red Torch Theater became famous throughout the country as the Siberian Moscow Art Theater. A charitable foundation is named in her honor. It is intended to provide financial support to actors and other employees of the Red Torch Theater, important projects, and so on.
