The Opera House (Nizhny Novgorod) has come a long and difficult path of development. Today his repertoire is rich and versatile. It includes not only operas and ballets, but also operettas and performances for children.

History

The first musical and theatrical performances in the city took place in 1798. Then Prince N. G. Shakhovskoy brought his serf troupe to Nizhny Novgorod. The State Opera House, with its professional permanent troupe, opened in 1935. His first performances are A. Borodin's opera "Prince Igor" and L. Minkus's ballet "Don Quixote". In 1937, in connection with the centenary of the death of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin, the theater was named after this great poet. In 1938, a young, future well-known director Boris Pokrovsky came to work here. Thanks to him, unique productions took place, which became significant for the troupe.

During the war years, a series of patriotic performances entered the theater's repertoire. At the same time, operettas were also included in the poster, since people in those harsh years needed comedies.

In the post-war yearsrepertoire has changed. Most of it was performances, the music for which was written by Soviet composers.

In the 70s. young artists joined the troupe. In 1980, he came to the theater to work as an artist A. D. Sukhanov. This talented person today is the artistic director of the opera troupe and the main director of the theater.

In 1986, the theater organized and for the first time held the festival "Boldino Autumn", which became an annual and received the status of International.

In 2010, the Nizhny Novgorod Opera carried out a very interesting project. The theater staged the operetta "Princess of the Circus" with the participation of circus performers of the city.

New Year

From December 26, 2015 to January 6, 2016, a children's New Year's performance could be seen at the Opera House (Nizhny Novgorod). The main characters of it were the characters of the cartoon "Just you wait" beloved by several generations - the famous Wolf and the Hare. Many adventures awaited them and the children who came to the holiday. The wolf really wanted to get on the Christmas tree. But he behaved badly all year, and therefore he was not invited to the holiday. Young viewers had to teach the Wolf to be kind and do good deeds. There was also another hero. The real villain. This is the Wolf, who was the hero of the fairy tales "Gingerbread Man", "The Wolf and the Seven Kids", "Three Little Pigs" and others. He will do his best to prevent the heroes from getting to the New Year's holiday. The moral is this: you only need to do good deeds in life. A lot of interesting things awaited the guys who came to the Christmas tree at the Opera House (Nizhny Novgorod). “Well, wait a minute” is an unusual performance. Here you could see a laser and light show, circus performances, real magicians, tricks, flights and much more. Of course, there were round dances around the Christmas tree. It was completely free to take pictures with the heroes. Make-up artists worked in the lobby.

The Opera House bears the name of Alexander Sergeevich. In 1986, a festival of ballet art "Boldino Autumn" was organized on its basis. It is held every year. This is the only ballet art festival in the world, which is dedicated to A. S. Pushkin. Spectators leave a lot of feedback on the Opera and Ballet Theatre. Most of them are positive. Among the advantages, there is a variety of repertoire - for every taste and age. There are even fairy tales for young children. One more of the main pluses is remarkable actors. Among the minuses, viewers note the fact that the building has long been in need of major repairs, since, firstly, it is already in not very good condition, and secondly, it was not designed for the needs of the theater. The acoustics are not very good, which, of course, spoils the impression of the vocals. And the stage is such that you can hear the stomping of ballerinas.
