Russian folklorist and writer Pavel Petrovich Bazhov was born in 1879 into a working-class family. After graduating from the Perm Theological Seminary, he works as a teacher in Kamyshlov and Yekaterinburg. In 1918 he volunteered for the Red Army. After the end of the war, the future writer took up journalism. His first book was called "The Urals were" and was published in 1924. His most famous collection "The Malachite Box" was published in 1939. During the life of the writer, this book was repeatedly supplemented with new tales.
Bazhov. "Stone Flower" - the magic of a folk tale
This work, like all other Bazhov's tales, was written by him from the words of the Ural artisans and, for the most part, is a literary adaptation of folklore. The story tells about the stone cutter Danilushka, who was kidnapped right from the wedding by the Mistress of the Copper Mountain - a mythical character of ancient Ural legends.
Recreation of anxieties, everyday life, hopes and worldview of ordinary workers in tales - that's what Bazhov wanted. "Stone flower" in thisplan is no exception. According to the plot, the main character Danilushka wholeheartedly wants to understand the natural beauty of the stone. He fails to do it on his own, and he asks the Mistress of the copper mountain to show him the legendary stone flower. Seeing his unearthly beauty, Danila, as the legend warns, remains forever in grief, because even the white light becomes not nice to him.
In this story, the author reveals the eternal desire of creative people to know the true nature of beauty. Constantly evolving, it remains, in fact, unattainable and elusive, like a forest mist. This is what Bazhov wanted to convey to the reader, based on folk art. "Stone Flower" is not just an interesting fairy tale, it is an expression of people's longing for justice, true pure love and fidelity. Indeed, at the end of the book, even the heart of the Mistress of the copper mountain trembled - the stone maiden Danila let go home to his bride.

In 1946, based on this work and other tales of the collection "Malachite Box", the film "Stone Flower" was released. This old tape can certainly be called ethnographically accurate. It reveals the folk customs of one particular region as realistically as possible. It's quite difficult to even define the film's genre - it's not a magical fantasy fiction, and not a historical picture.
The tape conveyed to the viewer an extraordinary story of love for one's craftsmanship, a story of talent and loy alty. Ural tales immerse the viewer and reader into the mythological atmosphereancient legends, the real roots of which are still unknown to anyone. Their main idea can be considered the statement that not everything in this world is measured in money, and not everything can be bought.
Bazhov wanted to tell the reader about this, collecting materials for his tales. "Stone Flower" is a work that more than one generation has been reading. The same can be said about the film. And one cannot but rejoice that, with all the modern abundance of special effects, there are people on the screens who are not without interest in real cinema with meaning.
