The Chuvash State Opera and Ballet Theatre, the photo of the building of which is presented in this article, opened its doors in 1960. The first performance of the troupe was the opera "Shyvarman".

The first attempts to carry out musical performances in the city were made long before the opening of the theater. The first opera, or rather scenes from it, were shown to the Cheboksary public in 1913. It was the work of M. Glinka "Ivan Susanin". Then there were other performances. But these performances were amateur.

The Opera House was opened in 1959 on the basis of the Drama Theater. Its founder was B. Markov. Then the theater was called musical and dramatic. Long yearsthe troupe was small. Because of this, many productions could not be staged.

From the first years of its existence, the theater included Chuvash operas in its repertoire. But it also included world classical masterpieces and works by Soviet composers. In 1962, the opera "Chapai" brought the artists great success on tour in Moscow.

In 1966, graduates of the Leningrad Choreographic School joined the theater. As a result, a professional ballet troupe was formed. Thanks to this, the theater expanded its repertoire, it included choreographic performances. The first ballets were Giselle, Sarpiguet and Chopiniana.

In 1969, the troupe was divided into two independent groups: drama and music. It happened on the basis of the order of the Ministry of Culture. In 1986, the musical theater moved to a separate building.

Soon the conservatory graduates joined the troupe, which made it possible to raise the level of opera productions, and large-scale performances became possible. Performances appeared on the poster: "Tosca", "Faust", "The Tsar's Bride", "Carmen", "Prince Igor", "La Traviata", "Rigoletto", "Abduction from the Seraglio" and "Troubadour".

In 1993 the musical theater was renamed. It was a recognition of the creative viability of the troupe. From now on, it became known as the Opera and Ballet Theatre.

Artists often tour and participate in festivals. Thanks to this, today the Chuvash State Opera and Ballet Theater is known far beyond the borders of the Republic. Its address is the Russian Federation, Cheboksary, Moskovsky Prospekt, house number 1. Located on the bay, in a picturesque location.
