The beginning of the history of Rostov-on-Don dates back to the time of the Azov campaigns of Peter I. Having passed through the centuries, the city has preserved a rich cultural heritage. Moreover, along with historical and architectural monuments, works of art are highly valued here.

After the war, the paintings began to be returned, but, unfortunately, the complete collection could not be restored.

A year after the end of the war, the Rostov Regional Museum of Fine Arts began to function again, but already in the premises of the art school. After 12 years, he occupied the house of the lawyer Petrov, designed by the architect Doroshenko at the end of the 19th century. The building is one of the architectural monuments of Rostov-on-Don. In 2009, a department was opened on Chekhov Lane.

Russian art

The Rostov Regional Museum of Fine Arts on Pushkinskaya is dedicated to the development of painting in Russia in the period of the 17th - early 20th centuries. All stages are presented in a logical sequence, so that visitors can get a holistic view of the development of the fine arts.

XVII - the beginning of the 18th century are remembered for portraits of famous personalities of the era of the Cossacks and the Hetmanate. Foreign painting

To get acquainted with world art, you need to visit the Rostov Regional Museum of Fine Arts on Chekhov. One of the expositions is devoted to European painting of the 17th-19th centuries. Unfortunately, most of the exhibits of the once rich collection were lost during the war. But this does not prevent visitors from getting a general idea of the main art schools of the time.

The Neapolitan school is represented by Mattia Preti's Dice Game. She came to Russia in 1772 through the efforts of Empress Catherine II. Among the later exhibits, bronze casting and snuff boxes made of rock crystal (XVIII–XIX centuries) stand out. unique vase,made in the technique of carving on lacquer, is another asset of the museum on Chekhov. The turn of the 19th–20th centuries is represented by carvings on ivory.

This miniature pendant was an essential attribute of the national men's costume. The famous tanto knife completes the collection. Although the tanto was considered the dagger of the samurai, it was also worn by women as a weapon of self-defense. The dagger was inserted into an exquisitely decorated bone frame, and sometimes disguised as a fan.
