It's hard to argue with the fact that addiction to games, all kinds of bets and competitions is part of human nature, and high stakes make life an indescribable pleasure. Fortunately (or alas), exorbitant gambling is not encouraged by modern society, so in reality you have to be content with sports competitions, computer games or harmless lotteries. But filmmakers in their creative delights can not adhere to restrictions: the plot of many films famously revolves around games, where the price of a fiasco is often the lives of heroes. According to reviews, the film "Nerv" refers to such projects. This good teen techno-thriller with attractive main actors has an IMDb rating of 6.50. Young people usually get excited about watching the movie "Nerve" (2016), but the picture may not satisfy an adult moviegoer.
Fabula. Tie
The plot of the film "Nerve" introduces the viewer to the main character Vee Delmonico (Emma Roberts), who is gaining the necessary passing score for admission to an elite art university. But doesn't haveability to pay for education. From his friend Sydney Vee, he learns about the popular illegal Truth or Dare Nerve game, where the participants can act as players and observers. Completion of any tasks players are paid, the amount of cash rewards depends on the degree of risk. Observers pay for the proposed quests and have the opportunity to watch the adventures of the players. Vee, being a modest girl, does not like to be in the spotlight, but due to financial problems and her friend's pushing, she enters the ranks of the players.
Intrigue
The first task for her is an extraordinary way to meet a stranger. The stranger turns out to be the charming motorcyclist Ian (Dave Franco, very similar in this role to the young Tom Cruise). By joining forces, young people begin to fulfill the increasingly risky fantasies of anonymous observers. The rewards are getting bigger. Simultaneously, Ian and V feel a growing sympathy for each other. The friend of the main character Tommy begins to be jealous and worried. Overly liberated Sydney is very jealous of her friend, because it is she who wants to be the star of Nerva, she is ready for almost anything to increase the number of her subscribers. On top of that, V begins to suspect that Ian is hiding something, but it is already impossible to leave the game.
Paranoid thriller quest
The film "Nerv" has more than one director, it was created by co-directors Henry Joost and Ariel Shulman, who receivedworld fame in 2010 after the release of the documentary project "How I was friends on a social network." In their work, the creative duo explored the sophisticated fantasies of ordinary people who came up with a parallel life in social networks. After they honed their directorial skills in the third and fourth parts of "Paranormal Activity", but, as it turned out, they did not forget about the danger and attraction of the World Wide Web. Nerve (2016) is based on the novel of the same name by Jeanne Ryan, which was adapted for film by screenwriter Jessica Sharzer. The picture as a whole is dedicated to how far young people are willing to go for "likes" and what their peers are ready to doom when they put "likes", discussing characters, completing quests and defeats.
Realistic full-length clip
Many authors of reviews of the film "Nerv" rightly point out that this is not the first tape covering this topic, while noting that it is one of the most realistic. Reviewers also note the presence of frank technical film blunders, but much of what is shown in the tape (the action takes place in the near future) can be implemented now. And this cannot but be alarming.
The picture of the creative director's tandem is famously shot and very much like a smartphone application. During the narration, icons appear on the screen every now and then, which are drawn to swipe or click. The tape seems to invite the viewer to connect to what is happening, put a “like”, comment. In other words, the thriller is colorful andenergetic full-length clip, which is quite realistic. Many viewers in the reviews of the film "Nerv" notice that the picture can be regarded as a reminder of how virtual and real reality have merged today.
First impressions are deceptive
It is not easy to determine the genre policy of the project at once. The film begins as an exciting romantic adventure, the observers offer the main character to kiss any of the cafe visitors, naturally, V's choice falls on the most attractive young man who also plays Nerve. The first joint tasks for a pair of key characters are similar to the harmless antics of teenagers. But as soon as the girl begins to feel like she is lucky, she has found a painless and easy way to earn money to pay for tuition, the stakes rise sharply, new tasks force her and her partner to risk their lives. Of course, a girl can refuse to continue the game at any time, but all the money she has accumulated will be lost. No matter how strange it may sound, but the observers literally take the heroine "weakly".
Rated PG-13
The further, the more, though slowly, "Nerv" sneaks into the territory of the thriller and almost horror. However, the authors do not dare to go as far as they could in such a case. An experienced movie fan will immediately note that after an intriguing beginning and an energetic middle, the picture towards the end only outlines the blows, and does not hit backhand. A climax that claims tonatural "tin", it turns out to be too soft when all the behind-the-scenes ups and downs become clear. Naturally, such a development of events caused a lot of complaints from viewers who were deceived in their expectations. Many of the disappointed hurried to express their annoyance in reviews of the film "Nerv".
Why did the authors decide to soften the story? Because, according to their statement, the project is addressed to young people whom the thriller will be able to teach something useful. So they gave the story a PG-13 rating and assured the public that the movie would impress teenagers enough, but not give them nightmares.
Cinema as a game
As a result, the picture does not seem to reach the level of adult horror and thrillers, although it even wins in comparison with youth projects like The Hunger Games. The tape cannot be called innovative, it does not present anything radically new, but scrupulously builds a familiar genre scheme, adjusting it to a modern context. A teenage thriller can be safely recognized as a very instructive film that has not lost any charm or energy with all the moralizing. Movies can - like the game itself - first seduce, and then slightly frighten the enthusiastic viewer, who is a potential participant in many similar dubious entertainments.
By the way, in the domestic film distribution "Nerv" came out with a rating of "16+". Since this is by no means a universal genre project, and the older the viewer, the more insignificant the chances that he will really be able to hook them. It should also be noted that it is rather femalea thriller than a masculine one, although at one point, not only Dave Franco, but also Emma Roberts is practically naked. The film "Nerve" has several juicy episodes that do not go beyond the limits of decency and rating restrictions.
Acting Ensemble
By the way, about the actors. The creators of the thriller made the right choice in terms of casting. The actors and roles of the film "Nerv" are impeccably selected by the types. The star of youth television series, singer and niece of Julia Roberts - Emma Roberts and the younger brother of the more famous director and actor James Franco - handsome Dave Franco made up an impeccably expressive on-screen couple. This is often noted by viewers. By the way, in the movie "Nerve" Dave Franco looks gorgeous with a naked torso, unlike Emma, whose beauty is not affected by the degree of exposure.
The rest of the performers tried unsuccessfully to get out of their shadow. Therefore, the best episodes of the film should be considered those scenes in which the main characters solo without the rest of the ensemble. Scenario flaws compensate for the adrenaline inherent in an effective, if not complicated intrigue.
Pro Reviews
Most of the critics were inclined to position the work of G. Joost and E. Shulman as a real surprise. They noted the energy and dynamics of the project, appreciated the message that it is not safe to get involved in games, and instant popularity rarely leads to anything good. Among the particularly enthusiastic assessments, the statement of film experts, stating that the thriller is extremely sharp, unpredictable and wild, and therefore memorable andsuccessful. Filmmakers also appreciated the captivating storytelling, peppy soundtrack and glossy shell - all of which help to win the minds of young audiences.
Among the comments are complaints about the excessive madness and chaos on the screen. And not everyone appreciated the jump in pace to the denouement.
Filmmakers tend to recommend the tape for viewing to those viewers who consider themselves to be "carefree young minds".
