The best war films from the Soviet era are, of course, The Cranes Are Flying, The House I Live In, The Ballad of a Soldier, filmed in the late 50s, but still relevant today.

Fyodor Bondarchuk's "Stalingrad" was added to the list of "Best War Films" in 2013. Phantasmagoric scenery and impressive special effects completed the picture.
