They are so different… Steven Spielberg's work takes pride of place in the "Best War Movies" rating. This is a moving "Schindler's List" and a large-scale project "Saving Private Ryan".

Three "Oscars" for these pictures rightfully belong to the Hollywood master. Liam Neeson played the manufacturer Schindler (more than a thousand representatives of the Jewish nation owe him their lives). Ralph Fiennes has become such a credible "terry" fanatical fascist Amon Goth that this hero is ranked 15th among the hundred most notorious cinematic villains. And Tom Hanks and the entire cast of Saving Private Ryan, intense scenes and camera work made the said tape a masterpiece. The best war films are not necessarily showing the ghetto and the fate of the Jews (“The Pianist”, “Life is Beautiful”) or battle scenes (the epic “Liberation”, “Hot Snow”). The topic can be revealed in a completely different way. A wonderful comedy with a heroic bias by Gerard Ury "The Big Walk" made it possible to look at many things with humor. There are also paintings in which the love line is the main one. These are, for example, "Waterloo Bridge" and the legend of Hollywood "Gone with the Wind". Vivien Leigh shone in both.

Legends of Soviet film production

The best war films (Russian) are a different story. For more than one generation, the poignant works of Leonid Bykov “Only“old men”and “Aty-bats, soldiers were walking …” have been reviewed and sincerely loved. It is impossible to watch them without tears. A great merit in the uniqueness of these films is Leonid himself (he always starred in the films he directed) and his like-minded artists. Stanislav Rostotsky filmed the book by Boris Vasiliev (the story "… And the Dawns Here Are Quiet"). And he created a brilliant thing. She takes 10th place among the leaders of the Soviet box office. Andrei Martynov, still a very young man, managed to reincarnate as a solid and experienced Fedot Vaskov. Olga Ostroumova, Irina Shevchuk, Elena Drapeko - their acting life was just beginning, but they were able to be authentic! Irina Dolganova, who played Sonya Gurvich, did not appear on the screen again. And Ekaterina Markova (yesterday's orphanage Galina Chetvertak) is primarily a writer (this is hereditary, she is the daughter of Georgy Markov). The best war films from the Soviet era are, of course, The Cranes Are Flying, The House I Live In, The Ballad of a Soldier, filmed in the late 50s, but still relevant today.

For all time

Fyodor Bondarchuk's "Stalingrad" was added to the list of "Best War Films" in 2013. It starred one of the best actors of the new generation (and one of the director's favorite performers) Pyotr Fedorov. Everyone knows the history of the famous house, which was defended in Stalingrad by the Novgorodian Yakov Pavlov. Stalingrad is a variation on this theme. Fedorov played suchPavlova (in the Bondarchuk project, this is Captain Gromov). The German Thomas Kretschmann embodied the image of an ordinary fascist (Gromov's antagonist). Everyone has their own truth, their own reasons. One needs to hold positions, the other needs to break the resistance and destroy a handful of Soviet fighters who have settled in the house. A special note is brought to the story by the character of Maria Smolnikova (the young Stalingrad girl Katya, the only one who survived the bombing and does not leave her native walls). Phantasmagoric scenery and impressive special effects completed the picture.
