Chelyabinsk Youth Theater: history, repertoire, premieres

The Drama Youth Theater of Chelyabinsk is located in a place with a rather symbolic name - at the stop "Revolution Square", at 116 on Kirov Street. The former Youth Theater was located in the building of the People's House, which was transferred to the theater in 1982.

Although the townspeople still call the theater the Youth Theater, it was officially renamed the Drama Youth Theater back in 2011.

From the history of the theater

In fact, this theater is a youth one, Chelyabinsk saw its first performance in 1966. That is, the theater itself is quite young, like its name.

The first leader of the theater was B. Skomorovsky, a brilliant Soviet theater director who studied the trade with A. Lobanov. It was he who determined the fairway within which the theatrical ship is still moving - that is, orientation towards a certain audience, choice of repertoire, participation in various festivals and shows.

Gonemany events at which, after the announcement of the winner in any of the nominations with the words “Molodezhny Theater, Chelyabinsk”, the darkness of the audience halls exploded with applause.

Among the regalia are awards from Potsdam, Dembos, almost all Russian cities where theater festivals are held. But the most valuable in the troupe are six diplomas received in one day back in 1980, two awards from the Ministry of Culture of the RSFSR and an award from the Union of Theater Workers. Exactly nine times on that distant day, on the stage of the legendary theater in Taganrog, as part of a competition of performances to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the birth of A. P. Chekhov, the following sounded: "The Molodezhny Theater, Chelyabinsk." The play "Life stories" became the swan song of Chelyabinsk citizens.

Back in 1966, the doors of the theater opened in anticipation of the audience with two productions - "The Golden Key" and "They and Us". The first is the usual traditional dramatic performance. The second is an interactive, as they say now, performance-discussion. Such a combination of opposites in the repertoire, once defined by the first chief director, Chelyabinsk adhere to to this day.

What do they give?

The repertoire of the youth theater of Chelyabinsk has grown so much over the years since its opening that the archive of productions is no less than the list of existing performances. Today, Chelyabinsk residents position themselves as "Modern theater for the whole family." Of course, the list of productions presented to the attention of the audience is fully consistent with the chosen motto.

Among the performances on the stage of the Youth performances, the invariable love of the audience is:

Of course, despite the very large material already available, the long list of time-tested and loved by the audience performances, Chelyabinsk residents can not do without premieres.

The most high-profile premiere of the last season was "The Captain's Daughter". In recent years, the Chelyabinsk Youth Theater has not often spoiled with premieres, so the performance was very much expected by the public.

Captain's daughter

Pushkin's work has been read by everyone, and it would seem that nothing new or even interesting for the stage can be extracted from it. The "Captain's Daughter" was staged in almost every theater in our country more than once, doing it in different ways - from the usual classical drama with costumes and scenery to a farce that goes on the verge of a foul. This prevalence makes Pushkin's narrative not the best material for a theatrical production.

However, Chelyabinsk residents managed to overcome all the above inconveniences and open up to their viewers a completely different, new "Captain's Daughter". The action takes place in the first person. "Russian Revolt" - in this production, only the background, the performance is concentrated around the crisis of the personality of a person who cannot understand why he does notlife developed, because he always did the right thing. Pyotr Grinev is presented to the viewer from a completely different angle, quite unexpected and revealing this character in a completely new way.

Special attention deserves the work of set designers, decorators and technicians. The light in this performance is not only a stroke or part of the design, designed to highlight any moment. Here the beams of spotlights are full-fledged decorations. Some moments are made frighteningly true, for example, the hanging scenes.

Who worked on the premiere?

We worked on the premiere, so long-awaited in Chelyabinsk, which, according to critics, will collect more than a dozen awards at various festivals:

• Gulnur Hibatullina, costume designer, artist;
• Alexander Skrypnik, technician, lighting designer;

Andrey Gavrilyuk takes the stage as Pyotr Grinev. In addition to him, more than forty actors are employed in the production, only there are ten "yard people" on the stage, and six "nannies".
