At a time when dance music and pop metal were popular, Guns N 'Roses brought rock and roll to the charts. They weren't good boys: good boys don't play rock and roll. They were ugly and cruel misogynists, but they were also funny, vulnerable and sometimes sensitive, as their hit song Sweet Child O 'Mine showed.

Music by Guns N 'Roses

The music of Guns N 'Roses was simple, with a solid blues base. The musicians are sleazy, dirty and honest - everything that good hard rock and heavy metal artists should have. There was something refreshing about the group that could provoke anything from devotion to hatred, especially since all options were equally true.

The release of the group's albums 1986-1993

Guns N 'Roses released their first EP in 1986, which led to a Geffen deal. The following year, the debut album Appetite for Destruction was released.

They began to grow a following by playing numerous live shows, but the album didn't start selling until a year later when Sweet Child O' Mine started airing on MTV. Soon both the album and the single went to number one and Guns N' Roses became one of the most famous bands in the world.

Their debut single "Welcome to the Jungle" was re-released and reached the top ten, with Paradise City following in its footsteps.

By the end of 1988 they released G N 'R Lies, whichcombined four new acoustic-based songs (including the Top Five hit Five Patience) with his first EP. One in a million sparked intense controversy as Guns N' Roses slipped into misogyny, bigotry and pure violence. In fact, they somehow managed to dispel all forms of prejudice and hatred in one five-minute tune.

In 1990, the band recorded a cover version of Bob Dylan's Knockin' on Heaven's Door. Performed by Guns N' Roses Heavens door was featured on Days of Thunder, the soundtrack album for the film of the same name.

Guns N' Roses began work on the long-awaited sequel to Appetite for Destruction in late 1990. After a nearly year delay, Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II were released in September 1991.

Initially, these Guns N 'Roses albums sold very well and seemed destined to set the pace for the coming decade, but they didn't.

Guns N' Roses had absolutely no idea the change in hard rock in 1993 when they released The Spaghetti Incident, an album of punk cover songs, to some positive reviews. The band failed to capture the reckless spirit of not only the original versions, but also their own Appetite for Destruction.

In the middle of 1994, there were rumors that GNR was about to break up, as Axl Rose wanted to go in a new, more industrial direction, and Slash wanted to stay with his blues hard rock.

Calm time

Rose was left out of the spotlight, becominga hermit and doing nothing. He has also recruited various musicians, including Dave Navarro, Tommy Stinson and former Nine Inch Nails guitarist Robin Fink, for unofficial jam sessions.

The rest of the members were furious that Rose included childhood friend Paul Hugh in the new sessions when both Stradlin and Clarke were cut from the band. And the Rolling Stones remake of Sympathy for the Devil was basically the final straw when Rose cut out the other members' parts and put Hugo on the song without consulting anyone else.

In 1996, Slash officially parted ways with Guns N' Roses. Rumors continued to circulate and there was still no new material, although Rose re-recorded Appetite for Destruction with a new line-up for rehearsal purposes.

GNR's first new original song in 8 years, the industrial metal track Oh My God finally appeared on the soundtrack of Arnold Schwarzenegger's "The End of the World" in 1999. Shortly thereafter, Geffen expanded Guns N 'Roses Live's discography with Era: '87 -'93.

An appearance at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards helped spark interest in the new line-up, but Rose's mediocre performance and an interview in which he stated that the new album wasn't coming out anytime soon didn't help the band much.

That summer, GNR embarked on their first tour in 8 years. They managed to fulfill all their obligations in Europe and Asia. Unfortunately, they caused a violent and destructive riotin Vancouver when Rose didn't show up for the first show of their North American tour.

Years have passed, and the new album has not appeared in the discography of Guns N 'Roses. The album was called Chinese democracy for a long time, and sometimes recordings of the sessions were leaked and ended up on Internet file sharing sites.

A fascinating article written by Jeff Leeds for The New York Times, published in March 2005, showed just how confusing and costly making an album has become. According to an article titled "The Most Expensive Album Never Released", Rose began work on the album in 1994 and increased the production cost by nearly $13 million. Producers involved in the making of the album at one time or another have included Mike Clink, Youth, Sean Beavan and even Roy Thomas Baker.

In 2006, the album was almost released as Rose started making public appearances and even took his band on tour for a few shows. The biggest music industry paid off in 2008 when Axel unveiled an album that was made over 10 years ago, adding to Guns N' Roses' discography.

Despite Chinese democracy receiving many rave reviews and generally positive reviews from critics, the album failed to live up to expectations, debuting at number 3 on the Billboard 200 in November.

World tour

Guitarist DJ Ashba of Sixx: A. M. joined GNR in 2009 and the band has continued to work on new material and play shows, with some offormer members of the group sometimes took part in the tour.

In 2012, GNR's classic line-up was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Slash, McKagan, Clarke, Adler and Sorum reunited and performed some songs from the Appetite for Distruction era with vocalist Myles Kennedy replacing Rose who declined participate.

In 2016, GNR embarked on a tour titled Not in this lifetime ("Not in this life…"), which included Rose along with the reunited line-up of guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan and several touring members.

A remastered version of Appetite for Destruction appeared in the Guns N 'Roses mp3 discography in 2018. It included the previously unreleased single Shadow of Your Love, recorded by the original line-up.

Video clips of the group

Guns N 'Roses videos have been released for the following songs:

"November Rain". The plot of the epic clip focuses on marital bliss followed by the agony of lost love. Here, too, the viewer sees a full backing symphony, some pretty powerful visuals of Slash rocking his guitar in a dusty churchyard, a grim funeral procession, and Axl Rose waking up in a panic

  • Welcome to the Jungle. In the video, Axel Rose jumped out of the bus and ended up in the "jungle". Welcome to the Jungle found that the singer was introduced to a whole new world filled with "fun and games". The quick shots were intended to depict the society's fascination with sex, war andviolence, as shown on TV, while footage of the band's performance fills the rest of the clip.
  • Don't Cry. As part of the Guns N' Roses video trilogy, Axl Rose finds himself in a rather deplorable position in the Don't Cry video. Scenes of bitter arguing with guns, gunshots and helicopters with spotlights hovering so close as the band parades over a tall building, setting the tone. Themes of jealousy, death and bad relationships also run through the clip. The video ends with Axel looking up from the grave, which shows his name and the baby coming out of the bathroom.
  • You Could Be Mine. It's pretty hard to make a video for a soundtrack if you don't include footage from the movie. But for the song You Could Be Mine, which plays in Arnold Schwarzenegger's blockbuster Terminator 2: Judgment Day, the band does just that.
  • Paradise City. The rise of Guns N' Roses to the top of the charts was pretty quick and you can feel it in their Paradise City video. In a short time, the band found their way to play in stadiums, and the clip depicts the space during the soundcheck, when the band is preparing for the performance, and some moments backstage.
  • Sweet Child O' Mine. There are no special effects or high concepts here, but there is something iconic. This is a black and white grainy looking video. This is primarily a live clip of the band rehearsing while various members of the band and entourage are having fun.
  • Patience. Life on the road can be a lonely place. Axl Rose whistles and sings thoughtfully of distant love, andviewers watch a series of hotel rooms, corridors and lobbies. Room service has never seemed so much fun.
  • Estranged. The SWAT team breaks into Axel Rose's home as the singer lies unconscious, somewhere between reality and a dream state where dolphins swim along the Sunset Strip. What does all of this mean? You have to look and come up with your own interpretation.
  • Live and Let Die. In the era of Use Your Illusion, there was no better ticket than a ticket to a Guns N' Roses show. Looking at the video of the group Live and Let Die, you can see why. Axel Rose's crazy performance combined with one of the coolest bands on earth created a video clip that can be watched endlessly.
  • Garden of Eden. Part of what made the early era of Guns N' Roses so great was the sheer unflappable energy and ability to fully embrace their performance. You can see it in the Garden of Eden video when Axl Rose sings in front of a fisheye camera lens while his bandmates sing along and jump behind him.

In each of them you can find something different and listen to them endlessly.
