What attracts tourists to Nizhny Tagil? The puppet theater is one of the sights for which it is worth coming to the city in the Urals. It was founded back in 1944 on the initiative of the actress of the Leningrad New Theater Yulia Matveeva. The first screening of the fairy tale "The Princess and the Swineherd" took place on June 13 and was free for young viewers. The performance was a resounding success. The whole of Nizhny Tagil immediately started talking about him. Since then, the puppet theater has been consistently popular with residents and guests of the city, almost all premieres are sold out.

Children's theater had to survive in the harsh post-war years. Despite many difficulties, the team regularly worked not only on the native stage, but also traveled with shows to kindergartens, schools, boarding schools, pioneer camps.

The move of the theater to a new building in 1969 was a big event. Now the doors to the audience were opened to a large bright building with a spacious hall, a hall for 300 seats, a modern "live" stage and a buffet. The team has at its disposal excellent dressing rooms, fitting rooms, workshops.

From the late 80s. of the last century, significant changes were made to the repertoire of the children's puppet theater. Now performances were held on the stage not only for the age category 3+, 5+ and 7+, but also for older spectators of the 15+ category. The innovation was received with enthusiasm, and the firstadult play "Scarlet Sails" based on the extravaganza of the same name by A. Grin became a significant event in the cultural life of the city. Other similar performances were "The Heart of a Dog" by Bulgakov, the concert show "The Eighth Wonder of Color", "King Lear" by Shakespeare, "While Their Voices Are Sounding…" based on the book "War Has No Woman's Face" by S. Aleksievich and others.
