One of the most popular sections in the science fiction genre is science fiction. Science fiction works (mostly literature) describe non-existent technologies, inventions and scientific discoveries. The action of the plot often takes place in the future - both distant and closer to the present.
One of the authors working in the science fiction genre is the Soviet and Russian writer Sergei Aleksandrovich Abramov. Several cycles, about 20 single novels and several dozen short stories have been published under his name.
Biography and photo of Sergei Aleksandrovich Abramov
The future writer was born on April 10, 1944 in Moscow. His father Alexander Ivanovich Abramov was also a science fiction writer, with whom Sergei Alexandrovich wrote about ten works.
According to the official biography of Sergei Alexandrovich Abramov, he received his higher education at the Moscow Road Institute, graduating from the Faculty of Civil Aviation. He took part in the construction of one of the four main airports in Moscow - Domodedovo.
For 20 years, from 1968 to 1988, Sergei Alexandrovich Abramov worked as a journalist in such publications as Literaturnaya Gazeta, Pravda, Smena, Theatre. In 1988, he took over as editor-in-chief of his own newspaper, The Family, which published new issues once a week.
Abramov is not only a writer and journalist, but also a public figure. Since 1997, he has been Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Telecommunications and Mass Media of the Moscow Government. Since 2000 - Deputy Head of the Main Department of Internal Policy of the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation. In the period from 2001 to 2004, Sergei Alexandrovich Abramov served as secretary of the Presidential Councils for Culture and Art, Science, Technology, Education and Sports.
Literary activity
Abramov's official debut as a writer took place in 1961. His first works were written in collaboration with his father and enjoyed great success among fans of science fiction literature.
The novels “Horsemen from Nowhere”, “Paradise without Memory”, “Everything is Permitted” and others belong to the early period of Sergei Alexandrovich Abramov's work. These are classics of their genre, published as part of the Adventure & Science Fiction Library series.
Since the early 1970s, Sergei Abramov has been working alone. The first works written outside the creative duet with his father are "Rope Walkers", "Wolf cub for Gulliver", "Big miracles in a smallcity". Solo novels, novellas and short stories by the author enjoyed much less success with readers.
Not all books by Sergei Aleksandrovich Abramov can be described as science fiction. The writer has significantly departed from the canons of the direction in which he initially worked: in the story "The Quiet Angel Has Flew", in the novels "The Dead Don't Cry", "Slow Fast Train" and other publications, you can notice elements of fantasy.

One of the first novels by Sergei Alexandrovich Abramov, called "Riders from Nowhere", marked the beginning of the trilogy of the same name.
The plot begins with the fact that unusual clouds of an uncharacteristic pink color appear in the sky over Antarctica. Although they can hardly be called clouds, because these strange clumps of unknown origin are capable of cutting off ice peaks.
At the same time, human doubles and phantom cities begin to be discovered all over the planet. Is this related to the appearance of pink clouds, if so, how, and what will happen next? To find out the answers to these questions, the world scientific community is organizing an expedition to Antarctica.
Abramov's debut solo novel "Rope Walkers" tells the story of a world where human dreams have been taken under control. A register of dreams that can be viewed has been created. However, some prefer to watch "forbidden" dreams. The protagonist of the novel meets one of these violators.
Tales
"New Aladdin" - Abramov's popular story,written by him in collaboration with his father in 1967. Included in The Emperor's Shadow.
According to the plot, the protagonist of the work named Ozertsov finds an unusual bracelet, which turns out to be an ancient artifact. From this moment on, the life of a rural school teacher changes completely.
In 1980, the story "Above the Rainbow" was published, which later became the basis for the script of the Soviet feature film of the same name. The main character is the boy Alexander (Alik) Raduga, who has problems with physical education, or rather, with high jumps. But one day, Rainbow has a strange dream, after which he suddenly becomes one of the best athletes in school.
To a later period of Sergei Abramov's work is the story "The Quiet Angel Has Flew", describing an alternative reality in which Germany won the Second World War.
Stories
The story "Gamma of Time" (1967) tells about the meeting of a Russian physicist and a ghost in an old Scottish castle.
In the work "A Very Great Depth" (1971), Abramov suggests that some intelligent life forms live in the ocean. The world becomes aware of their existence after the US dumps its old stockpiles of chemical weapons into the ocean.
Writer Awards and Prizes
In 1977, Sergei Aleksandrovich Abramov was nominated for the Fant Prize for the story "The Time of His Students", but never became a laureate.
BIn 2001, the writer became a nominee for the Interpresscon award in the Debut Book category for his work My Place of Rest. There is no mistake in this: Abramov wrote this book together with his son, for whom "The Place of My Rest" became a debut.
In 2012 Sergey Abramov was awarded the RosCon Prize.
