The once-popular TV series "Misfits" in the UK was doomed to success. The main role (Simon Bellamy) went to Ivan Rheon.
The natural setting (filmed in London's South East West Ham) makes it closer to the youth of Britain. The London "ghetto", easily identified by the same type of towers that have appeared more than once in the series, and Southmere Lake, fits perfectly into the plot and conveys an atmosphere of doom and rejection by society.
Charming psycho or brutal killer?
Initially, the producers of the series relied on all the characters, except for Simon. His image was far from being the main one, if not secondary, but it was Simon Bellamy who managed to draw attention to himself and become a favorite of the audience. "Dregs" became for Ivan Rheon a runway in the world of cinema. Previously starring in minor roles in second-rate television series, Ivan not only managed to bring his hero out of the shadows, but also revealed himself as a versatile and diverse actor capable of cardinal reincarnation. An actor of one role is certainly not about him.
Later violent psychopath Ramsey Bolton ("Game of Thrones") in hisperformance only strengthened the opinion of critics that Ivan perfectly embodies completely opposite images and has an undoubted talent.
Simon Bellamy is one of the members of the "scum" - a pack of teenagers sent by court order to community service for petty offenses: arson, driving without a license while drunk, using and selling drugs, and fighting.
Initially a shy and mild-mannered social outcast, Simon gained the ability to become invisible after being caught in a storm, eventually being reborn as a superhero with the ability to foresee and travel through time.
His story
Simon Bellamy was "accidentally" invited to the club by a high school buddy named Matt. Later, when it turns out that the SMS was sent in error, Simon decides to take revenge. Nothing better than setting fire to Matt's house comes to the mind of the young hero, and he decides to take this desperate step. As the fire rages, Simon notices a cat that hasn't done anything to him personally, and the next decision is to put out the fire. But to do this not in the usual way, but by urinating through the mailbox in the door. For this occupation, the police catch him.
Before they charge Simon and send him to community service, law enforcement officers send the young man to a psychiatric hospital to determine his adequacy. There, he meets a girl who becomes so obsessed with him that after a storm that gives her the gift of a chameleon, he decides (not entirely successfully) to "take Simon into his arms."

Formerly seen only by his YouTube subscribers (he keeps his phone filming everything throughout the first season), Simon Bellamy struggles to be seen by ordinary people in real life.
Teenagers sent to the same penal labor as Simon Bellamy later become his true and only friends. Among them, he meets his girlfriend, whom he tries to protect, for which he even returns from the future. It is she who contributes to the fact that he turns from an ugly duckling into a smart and self-confident man.
How close are the "dregs"
The series became popular not only because of its black (sometimes English) humor, but also because of its "proximity" to the youth of Great Britain. When the writers created the story, they were inspired by the most ordinary teenagers working out their punishment in the vicinity of London. The idea to endow them with superpowers became the chip that attracted and hooked the attention of the audience. As the ratings of the series later showed, not only the UK has troubled youth seeking to find their place in life.
In addition, the shooting took place in London, which is well known and close to every Briton, so it is not surprising that the series was a success at home.
Gold line-up held the attention for three seasons: "chav" Kelly, sportsman Curtis, a wild child Alisha, "the soul of the company" Nathan and, of course, the brainSimon Bellamy gang. Quotes and jokes from the series (for example, “get ready to be stunned, goofy and lightly so fucking”) replenished the vocabulary of young people not only in the UK, but all over the world.
