He was surprisingly ugly, shunned human society and looked gloomy. But this big-nosed Dane had an amazing gift: to see the miraculous in the ordinary and gray, to revive objects and put philosophical wisdom and subtle humor into the mouths of his characters.
The list of Andersen's fairy tales has hundreds of works. In different sources, there are numbers from 150 to 180. Sometimes a sensation suddenly happens, and the world learns about a new magical story that was accidentally found today. This is what happened with the "Tallow Candle", discovered a year ago, in December 2012, in the Dane's homeland, in Odense. The manuscript was accidentally "unearthed" in the local archive under kilograms of waste paper.
Perhaps each reader can have his own list of Andersen's fairy tales. Some sources keep a record of the views of each of the published works of the author, thus obtaining their own rating of the popularity of magical stories. Sometimes they differ quite significantly. Somewhere in the top three winners were the famous "Thumbelina", "Snow Queen" and "Princess and the Pea". And somewhere the leadership was seized by the Little Mermaid by a wide margin.
However, the basis in any case is the most famous and loved by all Andersen's fairy tales. The list, in addition to those listed above, is replenished with "Flint" with its exciting plot, the autobiographical "Ugly Duckling", the touching "Steady Tin Soldier", the funny "Swineherd" and a whole collection of stories for the week - "Ole Lukoye". They were chosen by time and thousands of readers - young, mature and gray-haired.
But the Danish visionary also has less popular works that are just as beautiful. If we make a complete list of Andersen's fairy tales, we can't forget about them! An absolutely brilliant story for adults called "Children's Chatter" should become a reference book for every teacher, educator, parent. On two pages, the storyteller tells us about love for children (not only for his own!), about the danger of labeling, about the vicissitudes of Fate and Fortune.
One of the days off, arrange a holiday for yourself: re-read the wonderful stories and make your own list of Andersen's fairy tales that you will recommend to your friends. The story “Whatever they come up with …” tells about a poetic gift, the ability to “catch a ray of sunshine” and not think about oneself. And the bitter ending of the tale sounds unusually relevant and sends us back to Soviet times, when writers were persecuted by those who, without any shame, declared: “I myself have not read this book, but I think…”.
Funny fairy tale "What hubby does, that's fine!" will teach wives humility and the ability to love a spouse as he is. The story "True Truth" will tell about how gossip, transmitted by word of mouth, grows like a snowball. And how funny and instructive is the tale "How the storm outweighed the signs"!
Do not pass by the creativity of the Danish writer. Let your children fall in love with the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen. The list of works that unobtrusively educate inquisitive and noisy boys and girls must necessarily include a number of other stories. “Wild Swans”, “The Shepherdess and the Chimney Sweep”, “Nightingale”, “Galoshes of Happiness” and “Elder Mother” - these wonderful tales are so pleasant to read, hiding behind a warm blanket in frosty weather. Appreciate the humor, wisdom and artistic skill of the author. He already had a gift for catching the sunbeam.
