History of the theater

Perm Puppet Theater was founded in 1937. Initially, it was a very small troupe. The first performance of the theater was the fairy tale "At the command of the pike".

The troupe led a nomadic life for 22 years and did not have their own venue. The artists received their own building in 1959. This is an architectural monument designed by R. O. Karvovsky. It was built to hold prisoners. It was a transit prison, which was called the "correctional house" under the Soviet regime. There was a room with cells for prisoners, a bathhouse, a bakery, various workshops, a laundry, a garden, workshops, a hospital, etc. Party representatives, revolutionaries, dispossessed kulaks, and enemies of the people were kept here.

In 1957-58 the building was rebuilt as a theater. Architects from Leningrad participated in the construction. Sergei Obraztsov and the staging part of his theater helped build and equip the stage for Perm puppeteers. Initially, the puppeteers were forced to share this room with the Youth Theater. But soon they were his sole masters.

The first performance of the Permians in the new building was the play "The Devil's Mill".

In the 1980s I. V. Ignatiev was the chief director of the theater. Thanks to him, the productions acquired a bright figurative solution, became more professional and modern. His work has been repeatedly noted by critics. Today I. V. Ignatiev lives and works in St. Petersburg, is the head of the Skazka Theater.

Today, two halls - Small and Large - have a Perm puppet theater. Its poster offers performances for kids, schoolchildren, youth and adults.

From 1995 to 2013 the theater was directed by Igor Nisonovich Ternavsky. Under him, many new and very interesting performances appeared in the repertoire. Thanks to this, the theater has expanded its audience, and there are much more fans.

Since September 2014, director Alexander Vitalievich Yanushkevich has taken the post of artistic director. For many years he has been a director of performances at the Minsk Puppet Theatre. Alexander Vitalievich is a multiple nominee for the Golden Mask award and has repeatedly become a laureate of various festivals, including international ones.

This season, the Perm Puppet Theater presented several premiere performances to the public. One of them is the fairy tale "The Snow Queen". The premiere took place on December 19. Staged by director A. Yanushkevich.

This is a story about loy alty, friendship and sensitivity to others, about good and evil. That eternity lies in the salvation of the soul. And in order to find the true meaning of this word, you need to be honest, sensitive, brave, loving, like Gerda.

The performance is interesting not only for children, but also for adults. It consists of seven paintings. It successfully combines puppets of different sizes, a video sequence and a live shot of actors dressed in outlandish, bright costumes.

The performance was created in order to make the audience a little kinder and wiser.

Reviews

The Perm Puppet Theater receives mostly positive feedback from its audience. The audience writes that the performances are interesting not only for children, but also for their parents. The theater gives pleasure not only to small, but also to its large audience. Many productions use modern technology and unusual solutions.

The actors play their roles wonderfully. The audience really likes that often in performances there is a live plan next to the puppets.

Favorite productions of the audience - "The Snow Queen", "Pinocchio", "Overcoat" and others.

The theater has a great repertoire. There are performances for all ages and for all tastes. And before the New Year, Christmas trees are held, where Santa Claus and the Snow Maiden congratulate the children, where they are given good mood and gifts, and fairy-tale characters play interesting games with them.

But there are some viewers who write that the quality of some performances leaves much to be desired. Among the minuses is also noted the fact that the building is in need of repair.

In general, residents of the city are proud of their theater and recommend everyone to visit it. More than one generation of Permians has been brought up on his productions.
