The Samara Puppet Theater largely owes its development and formation to Sergei Vladimirovich Obraztsov and Evgeny Sergeevich Demmeni. The exact date of its opening is unknown. The first information about a professional puppet troupe dates back to 1932. It was assembled by Akim Lotsmanov, who was a director, a decorator, an artist, a screenwriter, and a sculptor. The first troupe consisted of only 5 artists. A. Lotsmanov's dolls were very beautiful and looked like they were alive.

To improve the professionalism of actors, Evgeny Demmeni was invited to the city. He led a seminar that included practical exercises.

Puppets were involved in the first performances. In 1937, parsley performances entered the repertoire.

During the war, almost all male actors went to the front. All roles were played by women. In 1945, the surviving actors returned to the troupe. At the same time, young talents also joined her.

In 1947artists began to work with cane puppets. They are the most effective as they give the illusion that they are moving and talking on their own, creating a sense of magic.

In 1956, the Samara Puppet Theater received its own building on Novo-Sadovaya Street, house number 17. The troupe gradually became more and more popular. More and more spectators began to come to the performances.

Sergey Obraztsov was a frequent guest. He generously shared his experience with Samara puppeteers and invited them to Moscow for conferences.

The first play for adults was staged in 1964 by the Samara people. It was the Divine Comedy.

In the early 80s, the Samara Puppet Theater became one of the most popular in the country. During this period, he began to go on tour and take part in various festivals.

In the early 90s, the ancillary premises of the theater were renovated. The auditorium and stage have been refurbished in a more modern way.

In 1991, a department of puppet theater actors was opened at the Samara Institute of Culture. At the same time, the first course of students was recruited. In 1996 they graduated and joined the theater troupe. At that time, there were already twenty performances in the repertoire.

The Samara Theater is different because its puppets are beautiful, colorful and interesting. They are made by professionals. In the early 90s, these excellent masters of their craft, Valery Arkadyevich Korotkov. They are few, but they manage to do a colossal job. Among them are a master propeller, a dressmaker, a designer-mechanic. Successperformances of the theater depends not only on the actors, but also on all these people. After all, if the dolls turn out to be ugly and the audience doesn’t like them, then the performances will no longer have such a stunning success.

Today the troupe employs sixteen actors. The music for the productions is written by the Samara composer V. Maksimov. V. Korotkov in 1997 was replaced by Yevgeny Petrovich Gorbunov, who works in the theater to this day.

Children and parents really like the play "Teremok". Here, a wonderful game of actors is combined with beautiful dolls. Children watch this performance with great pleasure. The only negative that the public notes is the ugly bear doll, which bears very little resemblance to this animal.
