How did scientist Everett Kaul become Abe Sapien?
Biography
Abe Sapien, whose real name was Langdon Everett Kaul, spent his first life as a Victorian scientist. He turned out to be a member of the Oanne Society. It was an occult organization whose members believed that all knowledge, like life itself, originated in the sea.
One day, Kaul found a jellyfish-like creature under the water, over which members of the organization performed a secret ritual. This freed the creature and turned Everett into a whole new species. They named him Ichthyo Sapien.
Representatives of the Oann Society saw this as a sign from the outside and decided to seal the developing organism in a water chamber. She was hidden in a laboratory located under a hospital in Washington. Kaul's colleagues expected to wait until the moment when the new creature was finally formed. But the Civil War began, and all members of the secret organization evacuated before they could take the camera with the creature. Everett remained in the lab until 1978 when workers found him.
First, the creature found was named Abraham Sapien because of a piece of paper that was attached to the camera. The sheet was dated the date of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, namely 1856-14-04.
Abe Sapien had no memory of a life as a scientist. He, along with the camera, was taken to the BPIZ (Bureau for Paranormal Research and Protection). Curious scientists were going to conduct experiments on him, but he was saved from such a fateHellboy. Over time, Sapien became an agent of the BPIZ. His first mission was with Hellboy in 1981.
Appearing in the work "Hellboy: a hero from hell", Sapien became a character in other works of his author. These are comics from the Hellboy and BPIZ series. He has been featured in The Devil Wakes, The Frog Plague, The Garden of Souls, The Fear King, The Case of the Gods, The Case of the Monsters.
In the last piece, it is shown that Sapien's condition suddenly worsened at the headquarters of the BPIZ. Employees manage to maintain the vitality of the body, but the doctors declared the brain dead.
Hero strengths and weaknesses
Abe Sapien is an amphibious humanoid. He is able to stay for a long time both in water and on land. To do this, he has gills and human lungs. However, in order not to weaken, he needs to maintain a constant moisture in his body.
Due to the unique structure - the presence of membranes on the limbs, large bright eyes, well-developed muscles - Sapien swims perfectly at very great depths, sees well even in muddy water.
Abe's core powers:
- lightning reaction;
- endurance;
- excellent wound healing;
- no signs of aging;
- skills of telepathy and psychometry.
The only significant weakness of the hero is his dependence on moisture. If his skin is not constantly moisturized, Sapien will weaken. Therefore, it can oftensee in the water chamber.
Hero Abilities
Besides the natural advantages that the amphibious man Abe Sapien possesses, he also has abilities that he has learned. The BPIZ agent is an excellent master of hand-to-hand combat. He is also a good connoisseur of both firearms and melee weapons.
All of Sapien's powers and abilities make him nearly invincible in combat. In a sense, he can be called immortal.
