The contribution of this group to the development of the "black" music of the world is colossal and, of course, undeniable. Run DMC are rightfully considered the pioneers of modern rap culture today. In the 1980s, they were the most famous hip-hop band in existence and managed to funnel the undercurrent of ghetto sounds into the mainstream. At the very beginning of 2004, the most authoritative music publication of the time, Rolling Stone, ranked them forty-eighth in the ranking of the greatest performers of the twentieth century. Undoubtedly, it was a huge breakthrough that could not be overestimated.

Group Founding

The trinity of the founders of the group met in Hollis, well known to rap fans. This area of New York was a relatively peaceful black commune in the city. The talented Joseph Simmons, as a teenager, thanks to his older brother Russell, received a long-awaited DJ job with the famous local rap artist Curtis Blow. Returning to Hollis, he constantly played tapes of his performances to his best friend Darryl McDaniels, whom he later even became addicted to rap.

The young musicians were frequenters of hip-hop venues and soon met the famous DJ Two-Fifths Park by Jason Mizell. The creative impulse followed very soon. The first brainchild of the guys had a loud and bright name ORANGE KRUSH.

After graduation, having clearly and finally defined their creative goals, the Hollis trio changed their name to Run DMC. The translation of the group's name was reduced to the addition of the stage names of the two leaders - Joseph Simmons (Dj Run) and Darryl McDaniels (DMC). Russell almost immediately took up the promotion of his brother's young project.

Music career

The first single of the beginning team, unfortunately, was not successful. Relative popularity for Run DMC came to the musicians only at the end of 1983, thanks to the amazing track It's Like That. I must say, against the background of the then rap music, this work really stood out. How? First of all, the unusual aggressiveness of rhymes and the minimization of the beat. By the way, at the same time the first album was released, titled after the name of the group.

The debut album was almost immediately recognized by the audience and became a hit, and today it is even considered a classic of the hip-hop genre. Then they released another two singles, confirming the high class of Run DMC.

Albums of this particular rap team first gained popularity among "white" listeners, which is very significant. So the guys became the pioneers of "black" music on MTV. Run DMC began using electric guitars in hip-hop music, which was a revolutionary approach for this genre.

In 1986, the band recorded the song Walk This with AerosmithWay, which almost instantly took the top of most charts in the world. This composition has become a symbol of true creative brotherhood and tolerance, declaring that there are no racial barriers in the cultural space.

Nineties

In the nineties, the activity of this group suddenly declined. Jason Mizel temporarily leaves the group and releases a solo album. McDaniels at this time suffers from alcoholism, and Simmons is accused of rape.

After three years of solitary wandering, Run DMC finally unite and record an album called Down With The King, which raises Christian themes. After the release of the last disc, the group again leaves the field of view of their fans and media radars, now for many years. Rumors of their breakup have been circulating again.

Recent years

In 2002, the group unites again and gives tours together with Rick Rubin in the USA, and also participates in combined rap concerts. At the end of October 2002, Jason Mizel, who left three sons, was found murdered in his own studio. The killers have not been identified to this day.

Run DMC will forever go down in the history of world music as the main legislators of hip-hop culture.
