Andrzej Zulawski is a Polish film director, writer and screenwriter. He was born in Lvov in 1940, on November 22. He is the son of a poet and writer, as well as the grandson of a science fiction writer.
Biography
The Zhulavsky family went to France in 1945. Four years later she moved to Czechoslovakia. And in 1952 she returned to Poland. Andrzej Zulawski studied at the directing department at the Higher Cinematographic Institute. Graduated from it. The creative debut of the young man took place in Poland. It was there that he returned when World War II ended.
Creativity
Andrzej Zulawski acted as an assistant to Andrzej Wajda during the filming of Samson in 1961. He became the second director when working on the films Love of the Twenties, as well as Ashes. In 1967, he created the medium-length television films Pavoncello and A Song of Triumphant Love. His 1971 film The Third Part of the Night became a manifesto for the new Polish cinema. She was awarded the Andrzej Munch Prize.
A few words should be said about the censorship of that time. The films of Andrzej Zulawski did not always reach the audience. In particular, the pictureThe Devil was banned by the Polish censors. The corresponding order came from Moscow from Furtseva, the Minister of Culture of the USSR. As a result, the film went on the shelf for a long 18 years. After the film was banned, the director received an offer to create a film in France. The film "The main thing is to love", which starred Klaus Kinski and Romy Schneider, brought him international fame. It happened in 1975
After returning to Poland, the director began working on a fantastic film called "On the Silver Planet". However, in 1977, on the orders of Janusz Wilhelmi, who was the Deputy Minister of Culture in Poland, filming was curtailed, costumes and scenery, in turn, were destroyed. The director himself was forced to leave the country under the threat of criminal prosecution. The picture was shot only 80 percent. It was only after a series of political changes that took place in the country in mid-1989 that they managed to edit the material that they managed to save and release it on the screens.
The next picture was "Possessed". It stars Isabelle Adjani. This work won the Golden Asteroid at the Fantastic Film Festival held in Trieste. Then the director shot the film "Public Woman". It starred Valerie Kapriski. This work won the Special Jury Prize at the Montreal Film Festival. The next picture was "Crazy Love". The film was based on Dostoevsky's novel The Idiot. The director's next work was called "My nights are more beautiful than your days." He also directed the film "Loy alty", which is based on the plot of the novel."Princess of Cleves" Madame de Lafayette.
It should be noted that Andrzej Zulawski and Sophie Marceau have become a married couple. The chosen one was 26 years younger than her husband. At the same time, a son was born to them. But in mid-2001, the couple broke up.
But let's get back to the creative work of the director. In Poland, in 1996, he made the film Shaman. The script for the film was created by Manuela Gretkowska. The director's last film was Cosmos. It came out in the summer of 2015. At the 68th Film Festival, held in Locarno, the film received a prize for directing. Andrzej Zulawski passed away on February 17, 2016, after a long illness.

The director received the title of Commander and the star of the Order of the Rebirth of Poland in 2001. In 2002 he became a Knight of the Legion of Honor.
