"Ivan": summary. The story of V. O. Bogomolov

Vladimir Osipovich Bogomolov is a Soviet writer who went through the Great Patriotic War from beginning to end. At the front, he served as the commander of the intelligence department, so Bogomolov knew firsthand about all the horrors of the war. One of the most famous works written by him is the story "Ivan", a summary of which is offered to your attention.

Suspicious person

Deputy battalion commander Senior Lieutenant G altsev is raised in the middle of the night. The reason for this is the detention of a boy who was found near the banks of the Dnieper. The child does not answer questions, only says that his name is Ivan Bondarev, and asks to be reported to headquarters. G altsev calls his immediate supervisor and reports about the boy. However, his words are not taken seriously. The detainee continues to insist on calling the headquarters and even names several people who need to be reported about his appearance. G altsev calls again, now he reports everything to Lieutenant Colonel Gryaznov. He gives the order to feed the boy, clothe him, provide him with paper and a pen, and keep information about his appearance secret. G altsev does everything that is required of him, and continues to follow Bondarev, who intently counts the spruce needles and grains taken out of his pocket, and then writes down the data.

Then the lieutenant goes to the river. There he reflects on how a weak boy in icy water could cross to the other side, if even a grown man could not do it.

Choline

After a while, Kholin arrives, a young black-haired man. Seeing Ivan, he immediately rushes to hug him, as if he were the closest person. From their conversation, G altsev understands that Bondarev swam across the Dnieper on a log, but did not find the boat that Kholin and Katasonov (a platoon commander from intelligence nicknamed Katasonich) hid for him. He was carried by the current several kilometers farther than Ivan had expected. The summary of the story will tell what happened next.

Kholin asks G altsev to secretly fit a car for them, and while the lieutenant is looking for transport, Ivan puts on a brand new tunic, on which the order "For Courage" flaunts. Kholin and Ivan leave.

Katasonov

Three days later, Katasonov appears at G altsev's, a small man resembling a rabbit, silent and shy. For two days, he carefully examines the enemy coast through a telescope.

G altsev decides to ask himabout Ivan, to which Katasonov replies that the boy is driven by hatred for the Germans. At the mention of Ivan, the eyes of the platoon commander begin to radiate kindness and tenderness.

Second meeting with Ivan

Three days later Kholin arrives again. Together with G altsev, they go to inspect the front line. The lieutenant was ordered to help Kholin in every possible way, but he does not really like it. G altsev goes to the medical unit to check on the recently arrived paramedic. She turns out to be a pretty young girl, whom, as G altsev admits, he would have liked very much in peacetime. However, in a war, he cannot afford this, so he speaks to her dryly and sternly.

Returning to his dugout, the lieutenant finds Kholin sleeping there and a note asking him to wake him up. G altsev does as he is told. After some time, Ivan appears in the dugout. The summary does not reflect all the details of the appearance of the boy for the second time at G altsev.

Bondarev is in a good mood and very friendly. While the boy is resting and looking at magazines about intelligence officers, Kholin and Katasonov are talking. G altsev learns that at night they plan to transport Ivan to the enemy's shore.

The boy notices G altsev's knife, which he likes very much. Ivan asks him for a gift. However, G altsev got this knife from a deceased friend, he keeps the Finn as a memory and cannot give it as a gift. The lieutenant promises Bondarev to make a similar knife and give it to him when they meet.

Choline,Katasonov and G altsev go to see the boats, at which time Ivan is left alone in the dugout. Returning, G altsev finds the boy in an excited state. There is a conversation about Ivan's life. It turns out that Bondarev was in the death camp and survived. Mother, father and little sister died before his eyes. Ivan had nothing left in his heart except hatred for the Nazis. During the conversation, it turns out that Kholin changed his mind and decided to take G altsev with him. They discuss the details of the plan.

Time has passed. G altsev did not forget about his promise to make a knife for Ivan. He always carries it with him, so that at an opportunity, through Gryaznov or Kholin, he can pass it on to Ivan. After some time, G altsev meets the lieutenant colonel and asks him to hand over the knife, to which Gryaznov replies that the lieutenant should forget about the boy, because the less they know about such people, the longer they live.
